Hits all the bliss points
Revisado: 03-25-24
Anyone who has read other books in this series will love this book. Scott Brick, is amazing as always. The balance of all the secondary characters was just bliss in this book. You get Evan, Josephine and Tommy in perfect doses. The story is exciting with a humorous side story of Evan trying to find his niece’s lost dog. Everything is right with this book.

Historia
So I'm throwing myself a breakup party, a glittery fete where I envision I'll lift a glass and celebrate being free and single again. What I actually do: drink too much champagne and blurt out to my best guy friend that I'd really like to get back on the horse. But what I truly don't expect is Carter's answer—he volunteers as tribute.

The story has been done over and over. The sex scenes are sometimes good and sometimes hilarious. There are many.

Historia
Brooklyn has always been a little obsessed with food, but it was her sister, Savannah, who became a chef, graduating from the prestigious Cordon Bleu school in Paris. She and her classmates all went on to successful careers, but none of them achieved culinary superstardom like Savannah's ex-boyfriend Baxter Cromwell. When Baxter invites the old gang to participate in his new restaurant's gala opening, in San Francisco, Savannah asks Brooklyn to restore a tattered cookbook as a present for him. Shortly after receiving the gift, Baxter is found dead, with Savannah kneeling over him, bloody knife in hand, and the rare cookbook has disappeared....

Great ending
Revisado: 02-20-24
I was surprised at who was the “bad guy” in this mystery. Lots of fun with Brooklyn getting into cooking, after being surrounded by chefs in the story.
Missed having the neighbors drop by. Thought they would with all the guests. One of the guests being Derick’s brother! Yummy!
The narrator is bad, especially for Savanna’s voice. The English accents are less than believable and are in no way consistent. The French accent is ok, and the Spanish accent is just passable. Even the affect for the dramatically effeminate gay guy is not consistent and makes his remarks less funny.
I look forward to the next book, but am less than enthusiastic about continuing with this narrator. The stories are just too good to pass up.

Excellent story telling
Revisado: 02-06-24
The story in this book was really good. We had a present day mystery and one going back 70 years. The older mystery brought together some finer points of Addy’s back story.
Spoiler:
I am so glad Simon is out! I never believed he was the right guy. I can only hope that he remains out of Addy’s life - as much as you can being in a small town.
I didn’t care for the narrator of this story. Listened at 1.4X to make it sound good.

Historia
1936 was a great year for the movie industry - the financial setbacks of the Great Depression were subsiding, so theater attendance was up. Americans everywhere were watching the stars, and few stars shined as brightly as one of America's most enduring screen favorites, Mary Astor. But Astor's personal story wasn't a happy one. Born poor and widowed at 24, Mary Astor had spent years looking for stability when she met and wed Dr. Franklyn Thorpe.

Interesting look at parts of old Hollywood
Revisado: 12-08-23
I enjoyed most of the book. I cheered for Mary Astor, a strong woman, who would seem ahead of her time, just is more of an example that strong women have existed for a long time.
The only part that went long was the end of the courtroom battle and then the judge was thinking as I was as a reader and made the lawyers end their back and forth.
Overall, it was a good book with a fair amount of detail on a plethora of personalities in old Hollywood.

Roller coaster
Revisado: 12-06-23
I laughed and cried and had moments of shock and wonder. It was a 90 min roller coaster and it was great!
Death, grief and loss are somethings that out culture doesn’t handle well and this performance is a great reminder that we will all feel it, experience it and do better together getting through it.

Not the best
Revisado: 11-18-23
I can’t stand the narrator.
The ending was just a little too perfect to the point of being a good end to the series. I really don’t care what goes on now as it feels wrapped up.
The mystery was good and the solution was interesting. That’s why I have 4 stars for the story.

Awesome!
Revisado: 10-26-23
I loved this instalment of the series. The only thing is that this was published in 2019 and now 2023, we haven’t had another! When?
I do love the spin off series from this one with Abby’s sister, Cat, as the MC, which was set up in this book.
The story was more complex for the last 2 books which have been a lot more fun to read. Also the last 2 books have been a relief from the apparent swear jar and Abby just swears! The cutesy replacements for the actual words (sentence enhancers) was eye roll inducing. There are (therefore) swear words - not a lot - again, sentence enhancers- but if that is not your thing, you have been “informed thustly” (Big Bang reference).
Also, the narrator is still as bad as always but if you make the speed to 1.5 it makes it better!

Revisado: 10-19-23
Thank goodness there was a good resolution to the cliff hanger from the last book. I don’t want to give anything away, but other authors should end their series so well!!
And the epilogues! Sigh……yes. Yes yes. So satisfying!
And thanks for finally letting the readers in on the lemon cake recipe!
