Historia
As one of the foremost evangelical thinkers of the 20th century, Francis Schaeffer long pondered the fate of declining Western culture. In this brilliant book, he analyzed the reasons for modern society's state of affairs and presented the only viable alternative: living by the Christian ethic, acceptance of God's revelation, and total affirmation of the Bible's morals, values, and meaning.

I appreciated this book very much. it taught me a lot of history and why we are where we are as a society today. Another excellent book by one of the Schaeffers. It fully answers the question the title poses. Enjoy!

Finally, a serious and candid conversation about raw milk, unlike any that has ever occurred in the many years since raw milk became a subject of contentious debate. The Raw Milk Answer Book raises the most difficult questions surrounding our most controversial food - the risk of getting seriously ill, whether it should be fed to children, the credibility of European research indicating raw milk has important healing powers - and answers them in calm, nonideological terms that are understandable to beginners and experienced drinkers alike.

I loved this book. I'm excited to begin drinking raw milk with my family and am thankful I live in a state that allows farmers to sell it directly from their farms. I look forward to a day when there will be more raw milk dairies!!

Thankful, but cautious
Revisado: 01-27-19
I appreciated Rachel's encouragement, vulnerability, and courage throughout this book and have a respect for her efforts and desire to help others. I am about the same age as her, am a Christian, and have four children myself so I resonated with some of her experiences and humor. I also appreciated how she identifies certain debilitating lies that pull women back from pursuing who God created them to be. As a fellow Christian, however, some of the foundational truths of our faith seemed to be tweeked into a western, individualized, materialistic ideal, which is vastly different from what scripture teaches. While I completely agree that God has given each of us particular giftings and desires to enjoy and use for His glory and for loving others, I felt it had too much emphasis on benefiting #1 (me) and missed the opportunity to discuss the calling of all believers to die themselves (not to who God created them to be, but) to ask and see what God has to say about how he created us and what we are created to do (how to love and serve our neighbors) instead of pursuing the pull of certain successes and materialism that won't ultimately satisfy. I realize that one book doesn't define a person's life, so I am praying that if she keeps writing in future, that she will better represent the sometimes-I'll-admit Paradox of the call of believers to lay down their own interests for following Jesus and the interests of others... that this usually isn't what humanity would see as a glamorous calling, but one Christians see as what we were created to do and a calling that brings the ultimate light and life to us and everyone else. Also, though I appreciate her cheerleader-style, I also think that acknowledging, accepting, and even taking joy (yes, joy... in our weakness, He (God) is strong through us) in our limitations is healthy and important. As someone who suffers from a sometimes-debilitating autoimmune disease, I have to set realistic goals and rest times for myself. Her efforts and pace of life is dizzying and though she acts like women can do anything, it snacks as a false message for many... she has been through a lot, but doesn't acknowledge her many privileges that have allowed her a huge leg up to get to where she is in life or the fact that she has a body that allows her to keep up am intense pace. She should be proud of what she has accomplished, but if that pride is not in what God is doing through her and she keeps giving herself all the credit, I'm very concerned for her heart and the message she is giving other women.

Historia
When a myriad of tense conversations about ideological differences in the Church left him feeling spiritually empty, Niequist determined God must have a different vision for worship and community. In his search, Aaron discovered that there was historical Christian precedent for enacting faith in a different way, an ancient and now future way of believing. He calls this third way "practice-based faith". This book is about loving one's faith tradition and, at the same time, following the call to something deeper and richer.

Historia
Finding one's calling is not just about finding something we can do - it is about finding what we can't not do. "Let your life speak" is a time-honored Quaker admonition to live one's life as witness to the deepest truths one knows. But as Parker Palmer explains, those words can also mean "listen to your life, and let it tell you what your truth is."

Beautiful
Revisado: 01-20-19
I loved this book. As a Christian, I found it was helpful in reflecting on the root of our lives--created by God, in the image of God for good works that each of us are created to uniquely do... if we just submit to listening internally for who God made us be...and in my words, whose we are meant to be--God's; something Jesus revealed in becoming human, like us.

Historia
Rooted in Aron's years of experience as a psychotherapist and her original research on child temperament, The Highly Sensitive Child shows how HSCs are born deeply reflective, sensitive to the subtle, and easily overwhelmed. These qualities can make for smart, conscientious, creative children, but with the wrong parenting or schooling they can become unusually shy or timid or begin acting out.
