Good Story Great Actors
Revisado: 04-28-24
The voice actors did an amazing job that was practically seamless. The story could use some ending, but otherwise I’m really good. Start to a series.

Great Dooku Story
Revisado: 12-03-20
This is not at all what I expected, and I love it...mostly. My biggest issue is in the voice acting. Ky sounds like Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) (which I can get over), but young Dooku and Sifo-Dyas sound like older teens and not 10-year-olds. Jenza also sounds much older as a child. It throws me off.
Barring those issues though, the audio is mastered and compiled extremely well, especially when the voices are overlaid. The crew at Random House Audio is fantastic.
Asajj Ventress seems to be haunted by her former Master, Ky Narec. His voice invades her thoughts, even when she is with her current Master, Count Dooku.
I don’t think I ever realized Dooku is the man’s first name, and that his surname was hidden from him until he went home to Serenno. He recalls that time in a conversation with Asajj, as it is when he learns of his heritage and family.
Including his sister, Jenza.
As the years pass, he and Jenza stay in touch. We learn of these communications through holograms Asajj is required to study, as Dooku wants her to find Jenza. He got a hold of the holograms and also has his memories, but he wants his sister.
I feel it’s a bit ambiguous as to why HE can’t search for Jenza, and I wonder how Asajj feels about his non-answer to her question.
The fact that both have inner conflicts (and scars that deepen their dark use of the Force) with the Jedi is telling. I find the parallels between them interesting, and it makes sense that they were drawn to each other.
Through these messages and memories, we learn of his friendship with Sifo-Dyas, his uncertainties about the Jedi Masters even before meeting his family, and his Force strength. His past is fascinating, and something that I now realize provides a more comprehensive link between the prequels and what we are now calling the High Republic (I know this takes place after the High Republic; I’m saying it’s an added link).
Jedi Master Braylon bothers me, especially after learning she didn’t always follow the rules as a youth. She is a bit caustic to Dooku and Sifo-Dyas, and berates them when Yoda is accidentally bowled over.
When we first meet Jedi Master Kostana, I like her, but then I become extremely wary of her very quickly.
After we learn why Dooku left the Jedi, I realized that this is also, in a minor way, a book about Asajj.

Good Short of Suri & Minna
Revisado: 02-02-20
A good prequel to the Legends of the First Empire series.
Sullivan begins this by saying it's a humorous piece, but I didn't find that to be the case, overall. BUT it was still very good.
We see Suri and Minna together.
We learn about Tura's background, including a bit of her parents.
Suri and Minna find their first rol beneath a waterfall. And there...is a pile of bones. If you've read the LotFE series, you can figure out where this is going. Still, it's quite interesting.

Good Story; Great Audio
Revisado: 11-11-16
Where does Dragonflight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Among the highest. Not the very top, but definitely in the top 20.
What did you like best about this story?
The uniqueness of the world McCaffrey developed, and the realistic magic involved.
What about Dick Hill’s performance did you like?
He had a good voice and emoted at proper times. He also changed voices so that it wasn't difficult to determine who in the story was speaking.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I didn't burst into laughter or cry at any given point. My most extreme reaction was being irritated at Lessa's childish avior at the end of the story.
Any additional comments?
It surprises me that this was written in 1968. McCaffrey was an author ahead of her time, and a fantastic one at that.

Strong Beginning; Got Boring Fast
Revisado: 10-29-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A better story and adding in audio effects.
What was most disappointing about Matthew Stover’s story?
The insane amount of cussing and lack of empathy I felt for the characters
What three words best describe Stefan Rudnicki’s voice?
Deep, dulcet, strong
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Almost a disappointed nonchalance.

Historia
One of the genre's favorite pairs returns in a classic fantasy short for both Riyria veterans and first-time readers. Several years have passed since the war-weary mercenary Hadrian and cynical ex-assassin Royce joined forces to start their thieves-for-hire organization better known as Riyria. Things have gone well enough for the team as they do "jobs" for various nobles throughout Elan. Usually that means stealing something, but when a young heiress asks them to steal her…well, that's a first for the pair.

Fantastic Side Story of Riyria
Revisado: 09-19-16
If you could sum up FREE: Professional Integrity (A Riyria Chronicles Tale) in three words, what would they be?
Kidnap the heiress?
What did you like best about this story?
The twists and turns that weren't a great surprise, but still kept me guessing.
Which character – as performed by Tim Gerard Reynolds – was your favorite?
Royce, because of how the nonchalance of the character was easily heard in the annunciations and inflections.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Nope. I chuckled a bit, but it wasn't extreme.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A thief, a candlemaker, an ex-mercenary, and a pig farmer walk into a trap…and what happens to them is no joke. When Riyria is hired to retrieve a jester’s treasure, Royce and Hadrian must match wits with a dwarf who proves to be anything but a fool. Difficult choices will need to be made, and in the end those who laugh last do so because they are the only ones to survive.

Fun Short Story
Revisado: 09-17-16
Would you listen to FREE: The Jester (A Riyria Chronicles Tale) again? Why?
Yes! I love Hadrian and Royce and, since I haven't yet read the "Chronicles" subseries, I would likely listen to this again after I do.
What other book might you compare FREE: The Jester (A Riyria Chronicles Tale) to and why?
The Riyria Revelations, if only for Hadrian and Royce
Which scene was your favorite?
I didn't have one
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Exactly what is in the blurb: "A thief, a candlemaker, an ex-mercenary, and a pig farmer walk into a trap…and what happens is no joke."

Decent Book, Great Mystery, Bad Audio
Revisado: 09-11-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
LISTENING to it, no. The story was pretty great other than a few things that didn't sit well with me, but the narrator's voice was not /awful/ but still pretty bad.
What didn't sit well with me is a personal thing. From what I could tell, the book was well-written and humorous.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
With some things I wasn't terribly surprised, and I was pleasantly surprised that some of my suspicions were incorrect.
How could the performance have been better?
- Put emotion into most of your worsd, not just some of them.
- Differentiate between characters better
- Completely new narrator
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I wouldn't. There were enough things that really didn't sit well with me to where I won't read the rest of the series.
