Historia
Filled with heart and humor, How to Build a Goddamn Empire shares the real-world, hard-earned business wisdom of one female entrepreneur who transformed an idea into a massive, category-disrupting national brand. As a first-time and inexperienced founder, Ali Kriegsman felt like she couldn’t relate to the glossy, glamorous entrepreneurs crowding her Instagram feed. In reality, Kriegsman thought, building something from nothing is a constant, dirty fight with your imposter syndrome and the intense fear that if things don’t work out, you’ll be a laughingstock.

Not meant for biz owners over 50
Revisado: 04-19-23
Yet another author who thinks her audience has never owned a business before.
I completely agree there is a ton of sexism that goes on in every male-dominated industry and women consistently under-rated just for being female. Kudos for fighting the good fight.
However, halfway through the book it was painfully clear the author is very young and the content is targeted to women under 30 years old who are thinking about starting a business.
While I’m no stranger to cussing (I drop an f-bomb almost every day) so many cusses in the book were just egregious, they didn’t make a point or improve the story. Got kind of annoying listening to a millennial make her points in sets of three - a copywriting secret far overused in a book.

Nothing New
Revisado: 12-29-22
Nothing new. If you already have a CPG business, or even read a few books on CPG startups, this books adds nothing you don’t already know. A lot of simple obvious lists and common sense. Content seems outdated too - squarespace for a website? That’s really old news.

Historia
Ido Leffler and Lance Kalish, two 29-year-old Australians with very different backgrounds and skills, cofounded their company in 2006 with little more than a dream - and made it big. Yes To Carrots has become one of the biggest natural beauty brands in the world and is one of the fastest-growing skincare brands. Leffler and Kalish have accomplished it all while maintaining solid principles, investing in meaningful business relationships, giving back to the community, and still making it home in time for dinner.

Not a “How To Scale Your Business” Book
Revisado: 12-26-22
Overall, an interesting and fun read.
But, in contrast to the title, this book does not cover how to scale a product to “get big or grow fast”. They also start the company by traveling internationally for sales, which tells me a) they come from rich families, and b) already had money in the bank.
It’s one company’s story, and that’s fine. But it’s nothing new I haven’t read before in 100 other similar books.
What I was expecting to read is the HOW to SUCCESSFULLY scale a business from launch to say, $10M annual revenue. Disappointed that this is not that book.
