Exquisite!!

A pure delights from start to finish. Strongly recommend viewing the play Our Town before beginning the book. The play is heavily referenced throughout. The writing was exquisite. Patchett paints a picture with every word. Narration is spectacular. Meryl Streep provides the nuance to enhance and already beautiful text. Fabulous listen!

Boring and No Substance

I had to really push myself to finish this. I wanted to fast forward it to the last three chapters but I plowed through it. It just was not my cup of tea. The characters were of no substance, and the storyline read like a typical romance novel.

Don’t waste your time or credit

Not at all what I expected from Tom Hanks! The title grabbed my attention, but it was so far removed from anything I expected. The story is disjointed, and the characters, far too many, are totally undeveloped. Because I listened to it as an audiobook I couldn’t remove myself from the fact that it was Tom Hanks doing the narration, but yet him not being one of the characters. I expected it to be more of a story of his experience as he learned the art of movie making, and this was not the case.

I loved every moment of this book. The narrator brings it to life! The story keeps making you wonder what’s coming next. I would highly recommend this novel.

Couldn’t get into it!

I should have listened to the reviews that said it was a slow start. It was a really slow start almost at the end of the first part and I was forcing myself to try to read it. I gave up on it.

Very disappointed!

The premise of this book sounded inviting. I was anticipating really enjoying it. I did not. It is most definitely not a page turner. I skimmed the last 5 to 6 chapters out of boredom. I was hoping that there was something that would grab me toward the end of the story but it did not.

My New Favorite

Beautifully written! The author shows great insight into human emotion and ability to survive. Eleanor Oliphant is damaged yet her soul has an unyielding desire for a good life. The performance is one of the best I have experienced in an audiobook. I did not want it to end.

This novel held my interest throughout. The three narrators brought the book to life. It gives great insight into the struggle of grief and the resilience of the human spirit. Madellyn spirit watching over her family and nudging them toward a happier life was such an inventive approach. Loved every minute of the story.
