Historia
The Gender Knot, Allan Johnson's response to the pain and confusion that men and women experience by living with gender inequality, explains what patriarchy is and isn't, how it works, and what gets in the way of understanding and doing something about it. Johnson's simple yet powerful approach avoids the paralyzing trap of guilt, blame, anger, and defensive denial that often results from conversations about gender.

Terrible Book
Revisado: 05-30-24
The author makes definitive and hyperbolic claims without any backing, citing little to no evidence other than their own opinion, using poor logic leads to many false conclusions. The content is super repetitive and reductionary and lacks useful insight. The authors viewpoint is extremely myopic, without nuance. Soooo many wrong presumptions underpin the conclusions, but remain unstated or under-discussed. Terrible Book!

Historia
Money is a fact of everyday life. We earn it, spend it and save it. We’re tempted to worship it and to trust it to provide for our needs. While much has been written about the power, danger, and stewardship of money, little has been written about what money actually is and whether or not money itself is moral. That information gap has been exploited to enrich a privileged few, enslave millions, and reap confusion and division throughout the world. How did this happen and what can we do about it?

Super thought provoking and compellling!
Revisado: 10-16-23
Loved the breakdown of moral vs immoral money systems and how our immoral monetary systems corrupt most other arenas of community life. The authors cast a picture of life under a different standard (Bitcoin Standard) where money accurately reflects our time and work, supports healthy community relationships and corporate accountability.

Historia
Stephanie Kelton's brilliant exploration of modern monetary theory (MMT) dramatically changes our understanding of how we can best deal with crucial issues ranging from poverty and inequality to creating jobs, expanding health care coverage, climate change, and building resilient infrastructure. Any ambitious proposal, however, inevitably runs into the buzz saw of how to find the money to pay for it, rooted in myths about deficits that are hobbling us as a country.

Not convincing that MMT works
Revisado: 11-09-21
Listened to the whole thing with an open mind, but leave even less convinced that MMT is the answer. This type of thinking will likely be the end of American economics - especially in light of human nature and the history of political spending. If this becomes universally adopted, it will inevitably end up with hyper inflation because our current tools will not suffice to accommodate the increased monetary supply that would flow out of this theory, or we will end up being taxed into oblivion to pull money out of the market, which in the end would only likely be resolved by totalitarian government assimilation of markets and industry. No thank you!

Historia
Have you joined a church or small group in hopes of experiencing real life change, only to be disappointed? Have you sat through inspiring sermons about what is possible when Christians gather together in mutually edifying relationships, only to recognize how cynical you have become after many failed attempts? Community may be one of the most over-promised, under-delivered aspects of the Christian life today. Individuals remain selfish and stuck in their ways.
