Very enjoyable listen with emotive performances by a small cast of readers. I think I learned something about China from each short story in an indirect way. It’s relatable.

Love story saga in exquisite detail

This is an epic English translation of a Japanese novel of three volumes. Murakami weaves a love story in another reality similar but different from ours. The attention to detail is exquisite. Be patient because this is a long listen but it pays off in the end.

Best sci-fi storyteller based in science

I absolutely loved this book! The performance by narrator Ray Porter is amazing! He has just the right voice for the main character and his virtuosity with other voices is truly incredible. Andy Weir is a great storyteller. Like The Martian, this book has just the right mix of science, humour, high stakes and suspenseful plot to keep you reading. You’ll probably finish this in one sitting. It’s that good.

Be a responsible human and read this important book

This book was not what I expected so I almost stopped after the first two chapters. I’m thankful that I soldiered on. History of life on Earth requires patience. Humans have only been around for a brief instant in geological time. We have done irreparable damage to the planet and its biosphere. Elizabeth Kolbert painstakingly weaves the history all together for us in a fact based account of how the continuum of life works over the millennium. You will be rewarded with an important understanding of how it works and how us humans have affected it. I felt optimistic in the end that just as much as we have ruined the planet, we also have the capacity to nurture and rebuild it for our own survival and other Earth species.

This is one of the best audiobooks that I’ve listened to. Given the large number of characters and complexity of the story, the large cast of superb readers brought this book to life and made it a pleasure to listen to. Bravo!
