The work tells the story of Jane's early life, her experience at Lowood School and as a governess. Her refusal to accept Rochester's love on any but her own strictly moral terms is a passionate cry for independence.

Juliet Stevenson’s is the best audio version
Revisado: 10-14-24
Charlotte Brontë has an excellent vocabulary in a time when erudition was prized and witticism admired. This gothic novel captures the age of 1850 in its romantic gothic narrative. Stevenson is a great underestimated British actress who speaks comfortably the sometimes abstruse phrases I.e. “either the agent or the victim of the bowstring” with smooth natural alacrity while varying her voice to match the male and female characters with correct intonation. I’ve read and heard and watched Jane Eyre many times, but consider this interpretation the best. Don’t miss it!

Block by Block offers an original perspective on thermodynamic science and history based on the three approaches of a practicing engineer, academician, and historian. The book synthesizes and gathers into one accessible volume a strategic range of foundational topics involving the atomic theory, energy, entropy, and the laws of thermodynamics.

Historia
Bertrand Russell wrote that mathematics can exalt "as surely as poetry". This is especially true of one equation: ei(pi) + 1 = 0, the brainchild of Leonhard Euler, the Mozart of mathematics. More than two centuries after Euler's death, it is still regarded as a conceptual diamond of unsurpassed beauty. Called Euler's identity, or God's equation, it includes just five numbers but represents an astonishing revelation of hidden connections.

Needs the Kindle book together
Revisado: 11-04-22
Unless you are willing to write down equations as you listen, you should buy together with the Kindle Book to get the full meaning. Otherwise, it is easy to understand especially if you remember algebra. This would be a good primer for teens pre-trig. I really never understood Euler’s Formula until I read this. The math is extremely over-explained if you know higher math, but that’s good if you need to teach it. There is some great background history here too. I enjoyed it!

Rosamond Pike is a consummate actress! Brilliant performance!
Revisado: 12-05-21
This wonderful series of books comes alive in this spectacular reading by Rosamond Pike. Her voice is exquisite and dexterous with a wonderful dynamic and beautiful telling that captivates you. You cannot stop listening and may get irritated if someone interrupts your enjoyment of this engaging performance. You feel and see the beauty, the horror, the terror, and the world she creates. You believe the words and see the scenes as if in a movie. Pike uses her talent to create separate accents and voices for each different character so that you don’t need to rewind to know who is speaking. She has an incredible repertoire of voices, deep for males, various Irish, Scottish, Cockney, and London accents give you the feeling of an entire cast. There are no awkward pauses as in the original audio recording. This is a very well directed and edited reading. Extremely enjoyable! Wonderful book! This reading can never be bettered. Enter the world through her voice and race for your life through the wheel of time. Enjoy!

A cult classic in the United Kingdom since its first publication there in the 1970s, Don't Point That Thing at Me is the first of a series of hilarious and dark-humored crime thrillers featuring the Honorable Charlie Mortdecai: degenerate aristocrat, amoral art dealer, seasoned epicurean, unwilling assassin, and acknowledged coward.

PG Wodehouse mixed with 1960s James Bond
Revisado: 04-22-21
Must read! Author is brilliant in his own right and doesn’t try to copy Wodehouse style at all but has that type of humor and shows appreciation for him giving him many nods without trying the impossible task of imitation. Story is set in 1960s with its modern language and sexuality, and will make you laugh out loud. I suggest reading book one then book three as they are sequels. The narrator is one of my favorites and marks every word cue and pause with the intuition of a good standup comedian. Great listen! I never tire of it. You will probably need to read or listen twice as the author throws you into the middle of the plot. That’s what makes it so fun. I love figuring out what’s going on like reading Sherlock Holmes. By now every word makes perfect sense, but then I’m intelligent and love intelligent British humor.

Wodehouse at his best

Just when you think only Jeeves or Blandings worth reading, you come across this masterpiece. The last chapter had me laughing out loud all five times I listened. Too bad all strings get tied up. It would have made a wonderful series!

Historia
A daring new vision of quantum theory from one of the leading minds of contemporary physics. In Einstein's Unfinished Revolution, theoretical physicist Lee Smolin provocatively argues that the problems that have bedeviled quantum physics since its inception are unsolved and unsolvable, for the simple reason that the theory is incomplete.

Excellent book on the latest in Quantum Mechanics
Revisado: 09-24-19
Having written a book on Quantum Foundations myself, I found this book particularly interesting. It explains in layman’s terms the latest theories including Many Worlds, Decoherence, and Spontaneous Collapse. Well worth a read for anyone interested in how the atomic world works and the possibility of a theory for quantum gravity. The author is well recognized in physics for his own work and has worked with the greats.

Historia
Einstein and the Quantum reveals for the first time the full significance of Albert Einstein's contributions to quantum theory. Einstein famously rejected quantum mechanics, observing that God does not play dice. But, in fact, he thought more about the nature of atoms, molecules, and the emission and absorption of light - the core of what we now know as quantum theory - than he did about relativity.
