Historia
With her remarkable insight into the human condition and silences that contain multitudes, Elizabeth Strout returns to the town of Crosby, Maine, and to her beloved cast of characters—Lucy Barton, Olive Kitteridge, Bob Burgess, and more—as they deal with a shocking crime in their midst, fall in love and yet choose to be apart, and grapple with the question, as Lucy Barton puts it, “What does anyone’s life mean?”

I tried but couldn’t listen any longer
Revisado: 03-03-25
Unfortunately, I was only able to listen for about 20 minutes. The narration was horrible. The story piqued my interest, but the narrators cadence and emphasis was off. I felt as though a preschool teacher was reading the story to a class of children. I’m very disappointed and may have to actually read the paper version.

Historia
The great scholar, W. E. B. Du Bois, once wrote about the problem of race in America, and what he called “Double Consciousness,” a sensitivity that every African American possesses in order to survive. Since childhood, Ailey Pearl Garfield has understood Du Bois’s words all too well. Bearing the names of two formidable Black Americans—the revered choreographer Alvin Ailey and her great grandmother Pearl, the descendant of enslaved Georgians and tenant farmers—Ailey carries Du Bois’s problem on her shoulders.

Historia
Attempting to escape his abusive father and generations of cyclical poverty, young Jonah Hargrove joins the mysterious River - a teenage girl carrying thousands of dollars in stolen meth - and embarks on a Southern Gothic odyssey through the East Texas river bottoms. They are pursued by local drug kingpin, John Curtis, and his murderous enforcer, Dakota Cade, with whom River was romantically involved. But Cade and Curtis have their own enemies, as their relationship with the cartel controlling their meth supply begins to sour.

It didn’t grab me
Revisado: 03-09-22
Judging from the story description and the favorable rating. I thought I would enjoy this story. However, after an hour of listening, I found myself bored. I don’t like to quit listening as I’m a curious person, but I couldn’t stand the narrator’s cadence or husky voice. A lot of folks liked it, so don’t take my word. Give it a go.

Great historical perspective
Revisado: 03-14-20
The book explains the economical shifts in philosophy and policy that have occurred over the past century, that have created the present day economy. I found it very informative and helpful in understanding the conditions and policies that have created our current global economy.
