this podcast has some interesting dialogue between the hosts, but the volume between the two is so different I constantly keep having to change my volume when one person or the other is talking.
it's also difficult to keep up sometimes because I can't find the source material anywhere so it's hard to keep up with what is actually happening in each chapter.

Makes fun of scientists, then gets the science wro
Revisado: 04-30-20
For a novel that has a wide selection of it degrading the modern liberal science movement it gets a lot of science really wrong. It's not that I don't realize it's science fiction, but a lot of it feels like there was no reasearch done at all beforehand.
There were some funny moments, and I appreciate the author taking into account poor reviews from the first novel, which I didn't realize this was a sequel too because I wasn't paying attention.
Anyway, I get that Larry tries to make fun of both sides of the political spectrum, but it's not satire when you insult people who are not in power, it's just bullying.
On a longer note, there is basically no character development and the stakes are too exaggerated to be believable.
Maybe try staying out of politics Larry.

tired of bad writing in these originals
Revisado: 02-24-20
A lot of these originals seem to put an emphasis on radio play style recording, but when characters say out loud what they're doing it feels clunky. This one was no different, and the dialogue just felt too unrealistic, it didn't feel like people talking. not a fan

Historia
There’s more to the swamplands than meets the teeth. In this supernatural tale of magic and mysticism, Henry Lemarchand grew up in Philadelphia knowing very little of his family—his father disappeared when he was young, leaving behind only a strange pouch of animal teeth. When he is sent to the Louisiana bayou to spend the summer with his eccentric uncle and cousin in their decaying ancestral mansion, Henry learns about his family’s supernatural legacy.

Contrived and boring
Revisado: 12-12-19
Maybe it was the reading, but this story just wasn't engaging. Lack of character growth and strange changes in characterization biggest this story down. the magic system also felt too contrived and irrational in how the characters respond.

Cute book, but there are some weird plot holes
Revisado: 10-02-19
I can tell this book is getting a lot of inspiration from Harry Potter but it does a good job of creating a fun world with an interesting magic concept. There were, however, a lot of small plot holes and weird keeps in logic that kept distracting me from the story.
It seems to be a common theme in YA novels like these.

Filled with contrivences and bad pulp
Revisado: 08-05-19
I wanted to like this story, I really did, but it felt like none of the characters were realistic. Jimmy was a stereotype trope like half the other characters and it feels like everything else is held up by pop culture references that will be dated in less than a decade (I guess we're the universe the Cubs actually won the world series in)
I really liked Tom as a character, but it felt like everything else was very contrived and the moments that did make me laugh were overshadowed by the author trying to hard to make pop culture references.

Historia
Very few people know that Mark Twain wrote a major work on Joan of Arc. Still fewer know that he considered it not only his most important, but also his best work. He spent 12 years in research and many months in France doing archival work, and then made several attempts until he felt he finally had the story he wanted to tell.

Good, but about 100 pages too long
Revisado: 07-21-18
This book has some great parts, don't get me wrong, but the first act is pretty slow, and the third act is repetitive as hell. it feels like it's never going to end, and the reader sounds as bored with the narration as I was listening in to him. it's a shame because I love Mark Twain, and I feel like I could have a much better experience with this book.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. An excellent fantasy adventure
Revisado: 12-07-15
In the vein of 1984 or the hunger games, this book has a man vs. government motif, but it adds a very interesting use of science fantasy.
Great characters and a really gripping story, this is a very entertaining novel.
