Historia
Rita Hayworth was the epitome of 1940s glamour. A legendary "Love Goddess", she was a huge box-office star, and her sultry beauty and sensational figure made her into one of Hollywood's greatest sex-symbols: a pin-up so incendiary that GIs pasted it on to the first atom bomb ever detonated.

An unpleasant story

I made myself listen to it until I just couldn't stand it anymore, which was disappointing because I was looking forward to hearing her story.

Historia
Society believes the worst of Justin Alastair, the notorious Duke of Avon. When he encounters a young boy, Léon, who is running from his abusive brother, Avon employs the boy as his page, parading him around parties and other society events in full view of his bitter rival, the Comte de Saint-Vire. But the truth is soon uncovered: Léon is a girl named Léonie and is actually the legitimate child of the Comte and his wife. While Avon is intent on his plan to reveal the Comte’s duplicity and ruin him, he is charmed by Léonie’s kindness, falls in love, and becomes a changed man.

Revisado: 09-23-23
This is the first Georgette Heyer book I listened to and it was so good that I couldn't stand it when it ended. So of course I wanted to try her other books too, but they didn't hold a candle to this one and a few of them I couldn't even finish.

Historia
You cannot understand the historic events of 2022 without understanding Zelensky. But the Zelensky effect is less about the man himself than about the civic nation he embodies: what makes Zelensky most extraordinary in war is his very ordinariness as a Ukrainian. The Zelensky Effect explains this paradox, exploring Ukraine's national history to show how its now-iconic president reflects the hopes and frustrations of the country's first 'independence generation'.

Absolutely hated it, I got maybe as far as two hours and am returning it
Revisado: 06-24-23
The first couple of hours are all but incomprehensible. So many characters thrown at you within the first 10 - 15 minutes, some of whom have a couple of different names, so it's very confusing as to who is who. And Fanny, who was in the previous book in the series, These Old Shades, has been recast as this supremely insufferable character who figures strongly in the first one to two hours. In addition, there has been no effort to acquaint the reader with any of the characters (character development) so you have no idea who they are or why they think what they think, say what they say, or do what they do.
So unlike These Old Shades, which was so well written and contained none of the aforementioned flaws.

Historia
This ambitious, electrifying work traces the harrowing journey of the famed Sarajevo Haggadah, a beautifully illuminated Hebrew manuscript created in 15th-century Spain. When it falls to Hanna Heath, an Australian rare-book expert, to conserve this priceless work, the series of tiny artifacts she discovers in its ancient binding—an insect wing fragment, wine stains, salt crystals, a white hair—only begin to unlock its deep mysteries.

I fully expected to and was looking forward to loving it
Revisado: 04-08-22
Geraldine Brooks is a favorite of mine and a description of the book was very intriguing. And in the beginning it was very interesting and a good set up for what I thought was going to be a fascinating and really interesting story. Until it got so slow and so boring for so long that I just can’t make myself listen to it anymore. Maybe it gets better, and if it was a hard copy I could leaf ahead until it did, but you can’t do that with an audiobook and I’m not willing to torture myself by putting in the time to get back to something interesting that might never turn out to be so.

Complete & total garbage
Revisado: 04-08-22
I have read all of the other Bridgerton books and they all deserved five or with possibly one exception, four stars. If it was possible to give this one minus five stars I would have. This one is so awful that I can’t believe Julia Quinn had the chutzpah to submit it for publication. Nor can I believe the publisher agreed to accept it. Both of them probably figured that people would buy it just because her name was on it and that returns would be minimal.
Don’t waste your time or your money on something so nauseatingly unreadable/unlistenable as this repetitively boring excuse for a story.

Historia
Glamour, danger, liberation: in a Mad Men–era of commercial flight, Pan Am World Airways attracted the kind of young woman who wanted out, and wanted up. Required to have a college education, speak two languages, and possess the political savvy of a Foreign Service officer, a jet-age stewardess serving on iconic Pan Am between 1966 and 1975 also had to be between 5′3" and 5′9", between 105 and 140 pounds, and under 26 years of age at the time of hire.

Revisado: 02-06-22
I graduated from high school in 1970 and so much wanted to be a stewardess for a few years. but I ended up going to college and after graduation felt that I should get a job doing what I'd gone to school for and gave up on that dream.
Even now, when I think of regrets that I have in my life, not spending a few years being a stewardess has always been very close to the top of the list. And after listening to this book, that regret is even more painful.
Wonderful story, beautifully written, terrific narration, and as an enjoyable as it was informative . Highly recommended.

Historia
12 Strong is the dramatic account of a small band of Special Forces soldiers who secretly entered Afghanistan following 9/11 and rode to war on horses against the Taliban. Outnumbered 40 to one, they pursued the enemy army across the mountainous Afghanistan terrain and, after a series of intense battles, captured the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. The bone-weary American soldiers were welcomed as liberators as they rode into the city. Then the action took a wholly unexpected turn.

Historia
In one of the most compelling combat narratives ever written, Staff Sergeant David Bellavia, an Army infantry platoon leader in Iraq, gives a teeth-rattling, first-hand account of 11 straight days of heavy house-to-house fighting during the climactic second battle of Fallujah. His actions in the firefight, which included killing five insurgents in hand-to-hand combat, earned Bellavia the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, and New York state's highest military honor, the Conspicuous Service Cross.
