Historia
On the right side of the law. Sort of. Sebastian Rudd is not your typical street lawyer. He works out of a customized bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun compartment, and a heavily armed driver. He has no firm, no partners, no associates, and only one employee: his driver, who's also his bodyguard, law clerk, confidant, and golf caddy.

Historia
Glen Walsh and Steven Alward were childhood friends in their tight-knit working-class community in Shortland, New South Wales. Both proud altar boys at the local Catholic church, they went on to attend the city's Catholic boys' highs schools. Both did well: Steven became a journalist; Glen a priest. But when Glen discovered another priest was sexually abusing boys, he reported the offending to police. Just weeks before he was due to give evidence at a key trial against the highest cleric to ever be charged with covering up child abuse, Father Glen Walsh was dead.

Gripping
Revisado: 03-03-21
A well researched and written book.
The contents are contemporary and the story appears reasonably balanced. The author is possessed of a clear view but does not force it upon the reader/listener.
Narration is excellent with beautiful modulation. I hope she does many more books.
I recommend this book without reservation.

Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favourite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, father, neighbour and a faithful member of the Methodist Church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell. As if the murder wasn't shocking enough, it was even more baffling that Pete's only statement about it - to the sheriff, to his defense attorney, to the judge, to his family and friends and to the people of Clanton - was 'I have nothing to say'.

Never again
Revisado: 03-09-19
I had previously said I wouldn't buy another Grisham novel as I thought he was just going through the motions. I was right. Bear in mind I enjoyed most of his earlier books.
This would be one of the worst books I have listened to in a long long time.
The story is extremely slow moving and laboured. I wasn't a huge fan of the reader but they probably did their best.
Do not buy. I won't buy another Grisham. Ever.

Historia
The Sunday collection in every Catholic church throughout the world is as familiar a part of the Mass as the homily and even Communion. There is no doubt that historically the Catholic Church has been one of the great engines of charity in history. But once a dollar is dropped in that basket, where does it go? How are weekly cash contributions that can amount to tens of thousands of dollars accounted for? Where does the money go when a diocese sells a church property for tens of millions of dollars?

listened for 12 hours and gave up. Too much detail for a person with casual interest in the topic. Story doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I have listened or read most of JG books. His early books were interesting and pacy. In recent books he seems to have an axe to grind. This is slow and turgid. I do not recommend.

Okay
Revisado: 11-15-04
The book is interesting, but basically develops into a young girls recollections of her father and his foibles. Many of the anecdotes are not particularly relevant to the subject matter - a little shallow. The narration of the story by the author is fine.
