This book held my attention. I loved it! Interesting story of the early 1900’s and the struggles people went through to survive. There were some twists. I liked the main character. She was very talented and became a big success.

Historia
As the war begins, Hanna Rombauer, a young German woman, is sent to live with her aunt and uncle after her mother’s death. Thrown into a life of luxury she never expected, Hanna soon finds herself unwillingly matched with an SS officer twenty years her senior. The independence that her mother lovingly fostered in her is considered highly inappropriate as the future wife of an up-and-coming officer and she is sent to a “bride school.” There, in a posh villa on the outskirts of town, Hanna is taught how to be a “proper” German wife.

Really enjoyed this book
Revisado: 04-07-24
One of the best books I’ve read this year. I liked it better than The Women. Although it was about the war in Germany, it didn’t give any details that
made reading it difficult.
I definitely recommend this book. Clara, Hanna and Matilda (Tilly) were all likable
and showed great strength under the circumstances that were out of their control.

Historia
Emily Emerson is used to being alone; her dad ran out on the family when she was just a kid, her mom died when she was 17, and her beloved grandmother has just passed away as well. But when she's laid off from her reporting job, she finds herself completely at sea until the day she receives a beautiful, haunting painting of a young woman standing at the edge of a sugarcane field under a violet sky. That woman is recognizable as her grandmother - and the painting arrived with no identification other than a handwritten note saying, "He always loved her."

Loved this book
Revisado: 03-19-24
This book held my interest from beginning to the end. The character development was great. I felt like I was along for the ride with Emily. I cared about the characters. I enjoyed this book more than The Paris Daughter and The Women that everyone raves about. If you’re looking for a non violent, good story with a happy ending, this is it.

Best book I’ve listened to this year!
Revisado: 03-17-24
The beginning was hard for me since I’m married to the most wonderful Jewish husband and father. I didn’t think I could get through it. When some people started to realize the Nazi’s were wrong, the book got better and better. I was truly vested in the characters. I really cared about them…the good ones. The romance was so beautiful. It was suspenseful. I didn’t want to stop listening. I liked it better than the Women and The Paris Daughter.

Just ok
Revisado: 12-09-23
This book was very boring almost until the second half. It went on and on about her brother Lucas’s gambling and him expecting his sister who ran the family business to give him unreasonable amounts of money to pay his debts. This is the second book I’ve read by Daniel Steel where the parents have a tragic accident and their 20 something year old daughter is left running the business. I did enjoy the book halfway through to the end. I’m glad I got this book at a discount and didn’t waste a credit.

Historia
The next three decades of Abby Herbert’s life are as carefully planned out as the last three were. Best career ever? Check. Great friends, one of whom she lives with in a stunning Tribeca apartment? Check. Perfect man to share her dream family? Surely just a matter of time. On the bright side, she has the perfect person in mind to be the father.

Boring!
Revisado: 05-11-23
Abby finds out she has fertility issues and unless she gets pregnant soon, she won’t be able to have a child. She considers her best friend Marques’s brother but he turns her down. Abby and Marques are best friends that swear there’s nothing between them.
Marques offers to have a baby with her. From there on they constantly
agonize about their friendship and ruining it. It goes on and on and on about both of them misinterpreting the other’s feelings to the point of being boring having to listen to their
misinterpreted feelings.
When they finally have sex to conceive a baby, the same insecurities go on forever as do all their sex scenes.
There is no other story about having the baby and raising it. I don’t recommend this book. Waste of time.

I have experienced some recent health issues and Amy’s story helped me feel like my emotions are normal.

Undecided
Revisado: 11-15-22
The narrator for Kate was hard for me to listen to. I couldn’t relate when Kate would make inappropriate comments. I’d cringe. Her intonation was grating on me. I always listen to the sample to see if I would like the narrator. The sample had the narrator for Ainsley. I liked that narrator much better. I thought about returning this book several times because I didn’t enjoy the beginning. I liked the last couple of hours better so not a complete loss. I still wouldn’t recommend it to anyone because there are better choices.

Revisado: 11-06-22
There was a section in the beginning of the story when I came close to returning this book. It was hard for me to listen to. Luckily it didn’t last too long. After that chapter, it was easier to listen. It got very good and I finished listening in two days. Except for the brothers in the beginning of the book, Tim and his brother, I thought the other characters were likable.
