Historia
The impossible has been accomplished. The Lord Ruler - the man who claimed to be god incarnate and brutally ruled the world for a thousand years - has been vanquished. But Kelsier, the hero who masterminded that triumph, is dead too, and now the awesome task of building a new world has been left to his young protégé, Vin, the former street urchin who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and to the idealistic young nobleman she loves.

Couldn’t finish it, it was too one note and monotonous. I really tried, but just too much misery and internal dialogue, without actually even speaking to each other

The reason for the murder in book one was very lame. It feels like the author is trying to cash in on the popularity of the show without putting much effort into the story.

Historia
Sikthand hadn't planned to take the stubborn little human hostage. But with political tensions at an all-time high, he had no choice. He would unflinchingly use her as a bargaining chip to secure better relations with the new Tremantian ruler. He would not, however, fall prey to her charms. When Sophia and Sikthand realize how far their enemies are willing to go to grab galactic power, they're forced into an unlikely alliance-and possibly a marriage of convenience-to protect their people. It's a good plan, too, if they don't do anything irrational along the way. Like falling in love.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 05-25-24
Too focused on the sex and not enough in developing side characters or plot. In the end you know hardly anything about the main character because the focus was completely on saving the damaged male. Not enough actual story.

Shallow characterizations, vague, inconsistent world building
Revisado: 03-14-24
I know it wasn’t supposed to be deep, but I gave it quite a few eye rolls. Books like this frustrate me, because there was potential, just very poorly executed.

Regular narrator passed away
Revisado: 10-29-23
I love this series, but the narrator of this book doesn’t really capture the characters nearly as well as Susie Berneis did. Unfortunately Ms. Berneis has passed away and the author is trying to find a replacement. Obviously, this won’t be easy. I’m holding out hope she settles on someone else though. It was harder to get into the story with characters being portrayed with such different characteristics than I was used to. The main character comes across a bit dippy, her parents seem ancient and feeble, and the husband is kinda boring. I’ve seen quite a few reviews showing annoyance at the narrator change, so I asked the author why
on Facebook and she answered pretty quickly.

Without spoiling the book, I just felt like the ending was completely dropped.
Spoiler
Charlie was doing so well and was getting it and then just walked away? Even if he didn’t want to be a villain, he could have done other stuff.

It’s official. Miriam Feldman's mastered boredom, aced invisibility, and graduated summa cum laude in smiling and playing nice in her post-divorce life. Then her best friend gets tangled up with some vamps and goes missing. If that’s not scary enough, Miri snaps, and in a cold dark rage, unleashes a rare and powerful shadow magic. Now, with only a mouthy golem and a grumpy-yet-sexy French wolf shifter to help her navigate this world of hidden magic, she’s in a race against time to rescue her friend and keep her loved ones safe from the skeletons in her past.

Narrator needs practice, story needs work
Revisado: 03-25-23
The French male interest sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger. The attempts to make the heroine sound sarcastic are just off rhythm. Detracted from the story, didn’t add to it. As for the story, the rules of magic in this universe don’t make sense, they don’t seem sustainable. The character makes guesses that become facts without anything to back them up and the story moves on. And 40 isn’t geriatric. The sex comments just seem crude and maybe tossed in for shock value, but just seem to fall flat. I think the author and narrator both just need practice though, there is potential here.

Wonderful writing, utterly unoriginal plot
Revisado: 09-23-22
I’ve seen copies of this plot all over Facebook for years and there really isn’t anything original in this book at all. However, the inner dialogue is wonderful and the book is well written. This was really hard to rate. I loved the narrator. I’m going to try to find other books she’s done.
