Historia
It's not easy, being king. You can't always rule a kingdom and still do what needs to be done. Eric - or King Halar, also known as the Demon King - has more than enough problems without the crown. But quitting the job of king isn't easy, either - unless you want to be beheaded. Most people regard that as an unsatisfactory way to quit. Even vampire lords tend to be cautious about guillotines. A king who loses his head has a real problem...or none at all.

Great story, but dear old Eric never learns
Revisado: 01-05-24
There has been several moments I've ranted and raved about the main character being a coward, while at other times complimenting his ability to hold back. This is a great story, but Eric really never learns. For being so incredibly intelligent but short on common sense, the question is this: isn't it better to mitigate harm and be willing to be a little bad, rather than be pushed so hard that you eventually explode and do a whole lot of bad?
It happens repeatedly now. How many does he have to lose and how many times does he have to be broken, before he'll drop the high horse or stop the cowardly act?
Hopefully not too many more books. It's an annoyingly repetitive theme.

Rereading some of my favorite books as a kid
Revisado: 09-27-23
I read and listened to all of these when I was in middle school/Jr high, and they were some of my favorite books. My reading and listening streak didn't end and I continued on with many other great authors and narrators. I decided to come back to this series for a re-listen as someone in his mid 20s and I don't think I can actually finish this book.
The sheer amount of tantrums and high volatility of Harry really makes me wonder how he has survived for so long. Rough life? Yes. Teenager? Yes. World out to get him? Yes. The reactions may be understandable, but if they're taking up the first 1/3 of the book (yes, 9 hours in) and there's seemingly no end, I don't think I'm going to be able to finish the book or series for my reread.
While the books and narrator may have been great for their time, they have most definitely been overshadowed by much better works and narrators since. I'm glad I read these as a kid because I definitely wouldn't have been able to finish this book now.

The City of Himnel crawls with depravity, violence, and backstabbing, and if Jax wants to keep his people, supply his growing war-machine, and have any kind of a chance at survival, he needs to not only survive there, he needs to rob it blind!

Finally entered a good state of flow, satisfied
Revisado: 07-23-23
I had problems with the first two books, albeit minor ones. I felt most of those were resolved with this book, and I greatly enjoyed the story.
Jax had less temper tantrums, he finally has a cohort of competent people, the narrator wasn't overly enunciating his favorite words and the accents were too thick, and Jax lost some of his idealistic bull crap.
The story is well fleshed out at this point in time, and things are a bit more realistic. i.e. every fight is no longer a life and death battle where Jax barely pulls through every single time where he goes through enormous pain and suffering.

Jax seems like a regular guy, except that he fights creatures from a strange place called the UnderVerse in his sleep, leaving him covered in horrific scars when he wakes up. The mysterious disappearance of his brother five years prior has forced Jax into a holding pattern, with a job he tolerates, a girl he kinda, sorta loves . . . until he's kidnapped and given a stark choice by his asshat of a father: Go to the UnderVerse in reality, travel to the capitol of that ruined realm at the center of reality, and open a portal for the Noble Houses to return home . . .

Decent LitRPG, great narrator, overly dumb MC
Revisado: 07-14-23
It's a decent entry for the genre.
The narrator:
A good amount of talent for voice acting, but it did take me a couple chapters to get used to the accent; in the beginning it was hard to understand some words. The narrator also has a tendency to over pronounce some words over and over, almost as if they were his favorite. Overall, good.
MC:
This guy is straight up dumb. I typically have an issue with overly dumb characters that just skate by, but this guy is straight up aware he's an idiot and doesn't try to compensate for it. The plot routinely punishes his idiocy, so for the most part it works. I wasn't overly aggravated as there were repercussions for his actions, and the MC seems to suffer an unreasonable amount of pain for his personality, so that helped.
Story:
Overall, good and pretty well imagined. Mechanics seem to be thought out. The series very quickly gets into retreat ideas (the same outcome to particular events) but it's at least entertaining.

I found this on the app and tried it because I had some time to kill and no audio books lined up. I was exceptionally surprised at the way the story caught me and held my attention through the plot and story twists, which this story has many of. Highly recommend this to any fans of sea or space exploration story lines.

An excellent story, well written and well executed
Revisado: 02-07-21
I have read all of Aleron Kong's books, and this book is much like The Land: it has excellent writing, great characters, and a full plot. This is Aleron's second series, and his writing has matured quite a bit from The Land. I would recommend this series to anyone over 18, and would definitely rank it in my top five favorite series. I greatly look forward to the next installment.
For those with complaints against The Land, I recommend trying this series regardless. While there are echoing similarities, this series is very much different, and, in my opinion, fills in missing plot holes The Land has (though it does not directly say anything - pure inference). I cannot say more without major plot spoilers.

Historia
In the highly anticipated finale to the New York Times best-selling trilogy, dictators, prophets, and tensions rise. In a world that’s conquered death, will humanity finally be torn asunder by the immortal beings it created? Citra and Rowan have disappeared. Endura is gone. It seems like nothing stands between Scythe Goddard and absolute dominion over the world scythedom. With the silence of the Thunderhead and the reverberations of the Great Resonance still shaking the earth to its core, the question remains: Is there anyone left who can stop him?

Many bad reviews, but this book was excellent
Revisado: 11-13-20
This was a fantastic conclusion to the series. There were many reviews that claimed this book was hard to follow, confusing, and many other things. I found it relatively straight forward and had no trouble following the storyline, even though it jumped around a bit. The build up to the conclusion was fantastic, and I am very satisfied with how the series finished, it even left room for several spin off series if the author has inclination. One area where I am slightly disappointed is how the story ended with Godard (spelling), the main nemesis or antagonist of the story. There was very little leadup. This is my only complaint about this book, and I highly recommend it to one and all. Truly a fantastic series.

Cast aside by his father at an early age, it’s up to him to make his own way and create his own honor. With just his horse, his weapons, the clothes on his back and in his pack, and the education that his family provided, he’ll have to go it alone. Luckily, he already has a pretty good idea of what he’s good at - fighting, and woodcraft - not to mention finding hidden and lost items.

Astounding
Revisado: 10-16-20
I loved the first book, it was innovative but not over the top like other novels I have read. It introduced a dystopian/utopian world run by a benevolent AI, and the Scythdom, the only remaining human run organization in the world. While I loved this book, it pales in comparison to how good this book is. Prior to starting this book, I read the reviews that claimed book 2 was better than the first. Normally, authors enter a slump with the second book and I was dubious about these claims. As I listened to this book, I recognized it was good, but it wasn't great like many other reviews claimed. Then the ending chapters of the book came, and I realized just how wrong I was. This book truly is great, and outdoes the first book by leaps and bounds. This is a must read, and I can't say any more without ruining the story.
