Historia
Locked behind bars for three years, Shadow did his time, quietly waiting for the day when he could return to Eagle Point, Indiana. But just days before his release, Laura and Shadow's best friend are killed in an accident. With his life in pieces and nothing to keep him tethered, Shadow accepts a job from a beguiling stranger he meets on the way home, an enigmatic man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday.

Brilliant story, excellent narration

Such a cool idea: what happened to all the gods brought to America in the minds of immigrants. Loved the story, the narration was truly exceptional

A prison doctor injects a condemned serial killer with a formula designed to keep his consciousness awake while his body rots in the grave. But all drugs have unforeseen side-effects. Excellent performance, poorly written female protagonist
Revisado: 02-11-18
William Dufris does an excellent job, as always. But even his performance wasn’t enough to salvage this story.
This is my first read of Mayberry’s, and based on this story, it’s clear he should not write female characters because he does not do it well. The main character is 20lb of female tropes shoved in a 5lb bag. Her emotional baggage was written to death, she refers to herself as a cow and b*tch during an internal monologue on a few occasions (women don’t do this), she’s referred to as “damaged goods” by three different characters, and we get it, she’s hot, you don’t need to mention it every few chapters. The simplest of things need to be explained to her, and her abandonment issues are so clumsily depicted, I got a headache from rolling my eyes. It was really distracting from and added nothing to the larger zombie outbreak story, which was pretty cool and had enough nuance to carry itself without the poorly written and failed attempt to write a complex female character.

Historia
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Excellent book

Super interesting story. Scalzi has a knack for science fiction that's plausible enough to be creepy but still wildly entertaining. Wil Wheaton does another excellent narration job.

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

Good story, in line with the rest of the series. My only complaint is the narrator's Italian accents sound more like Transylvanian joke voices.

Historia
On June 30, 1908, an object fell from the sky, releasing more energy than a thousand Hiroshima bombs. A Siberian forest was flattened, but the strike left no significant crater. The anomaly came to be known as the Tunguska Event, and scientists have never agreed whether it was the largest meteor strike in recorded history - or something else. Alien artifacts have been uncovered since the 1908 event, and a new star drive is discovered.

In a prosperous yet gruesomely violent near future, superhero vigilantes battle thugs whose heads are full of supervillain fantasies. The peace is kept by a team of smooth, well-dressed negotiators called The Men in Fancy Suits. Meanwhile a young girl is caught in the middle and thinks the whole thing is ridiculous. Excellent, hilarious, and well narrated. Stinky cats, car chases, flamboyant tailors, silly tech, holograms, and a French drop. I'll definitely listen to this again.

Historia
Despite the dismal Broadway season, Gunplay continues to draw crowds. A gangland spectacle, it's packed to the gills with action, explosions, and gunfire. In fact, Gunplay is so loud that no one notices the killing of Monte Field. In a sold-out theater, Field is found dead partway through the second act, surrounded by empty seats. The police hold the crowd and call for the one man who can untangle this daring murder: Inspector Richard Queen.

Just remember it was written in the 20's...
Revisado: 08-02-16
It's an excellent detective/mystery story. I had to remind myself several times that it was written a long time ago to keep from getting too annoyed at the way women (dainty, fragile, forgetting their place, etc) are written in this story to finish. If that kind of thing bothers you, skip it. Otherwise, it was a pretty good story and the narration was excellently done

Historia
Not too long ago, there was no coming back from death. But now, with revolutionary medical advances, death has become just another serious complication. As a young medical student, Dr. David Casarett was inspired by the story of a two-year-old girl named Michelle Funk. Michelle fell into a creek and was underwater for over an hour. When she was found she wasn't breathing, and her pupils were fixed and dilated. That drowning should have been fatal. But after three hours of persistent work, a team of doctors and nurses was able to bring her back.

Thought provoking and surprisingly funny
Revisado: 06-26-16
Dr. Casarett's writing style is both entertaining and informative. He describes complicated (and simple) biological processes in ways that are easy enough to understand, all the while injecting a subtle (but much needed, given the subject matter) sense of humor. I thought I was going to hate Dixon's narration right at the beginning, but I was wrong. Turns out he was perfect for this book.
All around good listen - interesting, entertaining, good for a few chuckles, and thought provoking.
