Incel writes book?

Set aside the weird MRA undertones of act 3. Set aside the possibly derisive attitude toward homosexuality in act 2. The author really hates fat people.

He creates 3 obese characters, one in each act, and kills 2 of them with in attempts at slapstick toward which other characters are indifferent.

In act 3 the fat character becomes the lever to release attacks on body positivity, rape victims, women in general, feminism, and (just theorizing here) the author's emotionally withholding mother. Then she dies; no slapstick, just a garden variety fat people fire.. like we are all used to.

I have regrets.

Cronin does a good job with the terrible material.

Not the best Vimes novel...

...But still great. Many themes are introduced that continue throughout the following books. A must read.

I kept comparing it to Hail Mary in my mind. I think I liked Hail Mary more but I'm not at all sad that I read this. It was time well spent, just maybe not best spent.

Mispronunciations will burn your soul.

The narrator is fine. Really... ...except he mispronounces words. it isn't just accents or aluminium vs. aluminum Atlantic divide type stuff. It's as if he is encountering words for the first time and doesn't want to look them up in a dictionary. It is frustrating.

the best part of listening to this book was that it triggered a lot of time spent imagining what i would do in a similar situation.

...there is only one character of note, so asking me to choose my favorite character, inhuman audible web review prompts, is quite pointless.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

this audible book is nearly 11 hours long so, no, i did not want to listen to it all in one sitting. bedsores are not my thing.

i really wanted to review this book properly but audible's review prompts frustrate me.

i thought this book was fantastic. survival sci-fi was a new genre, for me, but the book was recommended by adam savage and his description of the story gripped immediately. i was pleased with the degree to which this book had my imagination going and stayed in my mind even during the times i was not listening to it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

sure. if you need to pass time, and you'd like to be entertained, but you absolutely can't stand the idea of reading something helps you grow as a person or presents an insight worth pondering on any subject whatsoever... why would you read anything else?

What did you like best about this story?

i like that we got to follow franks around, instead of MHI or Harbinger. not only did i get the correia fix i so badly needed, but i got to mix it up a bit, and play for one of the other teams for a while.

What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?

what's not to like? it was adequate. in fact, it was better than adequate. it was adequate plus 7 percent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
