Historia
John Boyd may be the most remarkable unsung hero in all of American military history. Some remember him as the greatest US fighter pilot ever - the man who, in simulated air-to-air combat, defeated every challenger in less than 40 seconds. Some recall him as the father of our country's most legendary fighter aircraft - the F-15 and F-16. Still, others think of Boyd as the most influential military theorist since Sun Tzu. They know only half the story.

May be a little biased
Revisado: 09-21-22
I grew up during the Cold War and played with gi joes. We were really into military stuff. I remember many of the planes a that were built in my childhood. I had no idea that John Boyd played such a big role in their development. This book was great but I don’t think it was very balanced. John seemed to have lots of critics but you never hear their side of things. It just seemed like John was always right and that he could do no wrong when it came to military stuff. He sounds like an amazing person (maybe a horrible father though).

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

I have been excited about this book since I heard it was coming out. It was amazing to find out how much in 30 rock is actually true. I love her humor and am going to be sad when 30 rock goes off the air. Great book if you are a fan.

Historia
Niall Ferguson follows the money to tell the human story behind the evolution of finance, from its origins in ancient Mesopotamia to the latest upheavals on what he calls Planet Finance. Bread, cash, dosh, dough, loot, lucre, moolah, readies, the wherewithal: Call it what you like, it matters. To Christians, love of it is the root of all evil. To generals, it's the sinews of war. To revolutionaries, it's the chains of labor. Niall Ferguson shows that finance is in fact the foundation of human progress.

I love economics
Revisado: 06-17-10
I am a rabid fan of Planet Money and this book helps you to create a base on understanding finance and money. I have always wondered about where money comes from and how it works. I have wondered how insurance and the stock market came into being. It gives you a sense of how important a good idea is and how much power that idea can have. If I would have known how fascinating this stuff was in high school (yeah right) I probably would have been an econ major instead of engineering.

Reality TV. Celebutantes. YouTube. Sex Tapes. Gossip Blogs. Drunk Driving. Tabloids. Drug Overdoses. Is this entertainment? Why do we keep watching? What does it mean for our kids? In the last decade, the face of entertainment has changed radically - and dangerously, as addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky and business and entertainment expert Dr. S. Mark Young argue in this eye-opening new book.

I agree with some of the other reviews
Revisado: 06-17-10
While I agree that this isn't exactly break through research I think it is important because it points out the pervasiveness of narcissism in our culture. It seems like such a difficult thing to treat because a narcissist never thinks he/she is the problem. I have to admit I am a huge fan of Dr. Drew. He really seems like the voice of reason in a world that is so messed up. Some critics of his shows use his show and an example of bad therapy, and point out that he is on a channel that isn't the most psychologically healthy. I agree with him that the people that really need therapy aren't going to be watching Discovery Health. They are going to be watching the show on VH1 about the girl that didn't know she was pregnant (and relating to her) and his show will come on about how people need to get into a treatment program. I have so much respect for him. Really a great person trying to make the world a better place.

I keep waiting for the movie
Revisado: 06-17-10
I loved this book. After I read it I thought "this would make a great movie" I think that they have a script and even an actor to play the main character. I just loved this book because it had so many twists and turns. I have to hand it to the Colombian police force. They really figured out how to get to him.

I love his quirkiness. He takes such delight in finding some weird fact interesting anecdote and I think he loves telling people about it. This had been in my library for a long long time. I think I need to pull it out again and read it. So amazing. I loved all of his other books as well. Makes me what to be a writer.

Real life more interesting the fiction
Revisado: 06-17-10
This book was amazing. The movie was pretty good but the book is way better. I loved all the twists and turns in the book and it really makes you take a different perspective on the war in Afghanistan. I was so sad when the book ended even though it has three parts. I am pretty much a nonfiction reader because you can't make up stuff like this. There were parts where I laughed out loud because of what happened in the story. The best part about this book is that it is all real. I love a good nonfiction book.

I loved this book. Inside Disney the real story
Revisado: 06-17-10
Every time I watch a Disney movie that was made during the time that this book takes place, all the information that I learned about the movie from this book comes back to me. I can't sit there and watch it with out leaning over and saying Eisner hated the "gay pirate" that Johnny Depp was doing. He had to sneak his fake teeth into the set. I just love books like this that have all the private memo's and diaries of the people involved because it is a court case. It seems like you get such a raw perspective because of this. I really feel like I am getting the real story.

It seems like any funny book on the New York Times Best sellers list features some gay person. Can't hetero people be funny anymore. I just had a hard time relating. David Sedaris is good but I wasn't a big fan of Augustin Burroghs. Just not my cup of tea.

In this endlessly fascinating book, New Yorker columnist James Surowiecki explores a deceptively simple idea that has profound implications: large groups of people are smarter than an elite few, no matter how brilliant. Groups are better at solving problems, fostering innovation, coming to wise decisions, even predicting the future.
