Interesting series

I’m enjoying the series so far. Wished I understood more about Duncan. I do however really dislike Becky. I hope her character improves or is featured less.

Historia
Natalka and Edwin are perfect if improbable partners in a detective agency. At eighty-four, Edwin regularly claims that he’s the oldest detective in England. He is a master at surveillance, deploying his age as a cloak of invisibility. Natalka, Ukrainian-born and more than fifty years his junior, is a math whizz, who takes any cases concerning fraud or deception. Despite a steady stream of minor cases, Natalka is frustrated. She loves a murder, as she’s fond of saying, and none have come the agency’s way. That is until local writer Melody Chambers dies.

Hard to follow and get through
Revisado: 06-06-24
I found this book really hard to get into from the beginning and the story took a very long time to develop. Telling it from 3 different perspectives can be really interesting (see Thursday Murder Club) but this one did not come together well. I just never could become interested. The story was really lacking.

I enjoy the series but this was a frustrating book. Making Paola behave as she does was completely unnecessary and not keeping in character. I was irritated while listening to it and kept forwarding it.

Historia
In Leon's fifth Commissario Guido Brunetti mystery, the beating of renowned art historian Dotoressa Brett Lynch draws the contemporary Venetian police detective out of his warm and loving home and into the yearly onslaught of acqua alta, the torrential winter rains. Brett, an American who spearheaded a recent exhibition of Chinese pottery in Venice, lives with her lover, Flavia Petrelli, the reigning diva of La Scala. With his open mind and good sense, Brunetti finds himself more fazed by Flavia's breathtaking talent than by the nontraditional relationship between the two women. Brunetti's deliberate and humane investigation to uncover a motive for Brett's beating takes him to dark, wet corners of Venice and into a sinister web of art theft, fakery, and base human desires.

I felt the story was lacking in this book. It wasn’t even clear if there was a crime for most of the story. I enjoy the books but this one was kind of boring.

Sad and interesting but not at the level of 1st 2 books
Revisado: 10-23-23
Overall I enjoyed the story but it’s not as well developed as the previous books especially 1 & 2. It also is quite sad at points which I wasn’t expecting. I was able to figure it out very quickly which made it less entertaining but a good book overall.

Sad book with not much mystery

I suppose this story needed to be told but it was a sad book. The mystery part was very light, tedious, and not interesting but you need to get through this book to move on in her story.

Cute and interesting
Revisado: 12-07-22
As a 1st generation Indian person I enjoyed hearing the story and references to things I heard from my parents. The mystery itself is not complicated at all and could have been told in a much shorter time. I wished it was a better developed mystery.

Historia
London, 1936. Lena Aldridge wonders if life has passed her by. The dazzling theatre career she hoped for hasn’t worked out. Instead, she’s stuck singing in a sticky-floored basement club in Soho, and her married lover has just left her. But Lena has always had a complicated life, one shrouded in mystery as a mixed-race girl passing for white in a city unforgiving of her true racial heritage.

Not really a mystery
Revisado: 08-29-22
This is less of a mystery novel and more of a book following Lena around as she has things happen to her. She doesn’t solve anything as such, rather the mystery unfolds around her. I think it could have been shorter, many points where the point could have been made sooner. It’s marginally entertaining but I did forward it at many spots.
