Historia
Tooly Zylberberg, the American owner of an isolated bookshop in the Welsh countryside, conducts a life full of reading, but with few human beings. Books are safer than people, who might ask awkward questions about her life. She prefers never to mention the strange events of her youth, which mystify and worry her still. Taken from home as a girl, Tooly found herself spirited away by a group of seductive outsiders, implicated in capers from Asia to Europe to the United States. But who were her abductors? Why did they take her? What did they really want?

The narrator spoke so quickly that I missed at least half of what she said, making the story unintelligible.

Historia
Set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, Joyland tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever. Joyland is a brand-new novel and has never previously been published.

Garbled reading devalues book
Revisado: 07-18-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The story wasn't good enough for a four or five, but the reader's performance made the book worse.
Has Joyland turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
How could the performance have been better?
The reader seemed unable to make each word clear and distinct. At least he should have slowed down.

Historia
According to Goldberg, if the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist, the greatest trick liberals ever pulled was convincing themselves they’re not ideological. Today “objective” journalists and academics and “moderate” politicians peddle some of the most radical arguments by hiding them in homespun aphorisms.

Author as Reader Ruins His Book
Revisado: 04-21-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If Author Goldberg had hired a professional to do the reading, this could have been a five. As it is, he clips and swallows words and compresses too many of them into blurs of sound. Conveying ideas audibly is not easy, and Goldberg hasn't a clue.
