Historia
So begins a new preface, illustrating how Columbine became the template for nearly two decades of "spectacle murders." It is a false script, seized upon by a generation of new killers. In the wake of Newtown, Aurora, and Virginia Tech, the imperative to understand the crime that sparked this plague grows more urgent every year.

A wonderful listen
Revisado: 12-14-24
It was a little slow and hard to get into in the beginning, it well worth the wait. I’m glad I stuck with it. A very thorough look at the space program and the disaster of the Challenger.

Second Narrator was not great
Revisado: 01-10-24
I started listening to this book with my wife when we travel. Seemed like an interesting story until we got to the second narrator. I tried but couldn’t do it. The story is being told from different perspectives so they use this guy who sounds like he does voice overs for cop shows in the 60s. Should have just stuck with the first narrator. I had to return it.

In The Widow Clicquot, Tilar J. Mazzeo brings to life for the first time the fascinating woman behind the iconic yellow label: Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin. A young witness to the dramatic events of the French Revolution and a new widow during the chaotic years of the Napoleonic Wars, Barbe-Nicole defied convention by assuming---after her husband's death---the reins of the fledgling wine business they had nurtured.

Very interesting story
Revisado: 12-17-23
I am not sure about some of the other reviews that did not like this book. I found it very interesting and it gave a nice look into life and business during the French Revolution and Napoleon years. Are there some missing details? Of course! I was shocked that the author was able to get as much information as she had on this wonderful historical figure.

Ah, remember ye olde days when the family would gather around the giant Philco radio and listen to serials? You don’t? We don’t either. But apparently that’s how Cinnamon Bear was born on November 26, 1937, as the star of a holiday season cliff-hanger-style children’s radio series. We hear it was quite the rage!

A history lesson, a comedy, an inside look at the presidency
Revisado: 02-03-21
Obama tells his story, basically from his into to politics through most of his first term as president. He gives an inside look as to what his thought process was on many of the decisions he made during that time. He explains the history of many different regions when discussing foreign policy decisions as president. It’s nice to know his thoroughness helped to shape his decisions which is much more than I can say for his successor. He is also very funny when recounting his story. And to listen to him read his own story is priceless!

Historia
Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Should be required reading
Revisado: 12-06-20
In school I was always taught that Malcom X was a hateful racist who finally came to say whites weren’t bad bc he saw Muslim whites in Mecca. I wasn’t a white Muslim so that didn’t really do much for me. There is a lot of truth in this book and most white people will find it hard to listen to at certain points. What I’ve learned is that the truth hurts sometimes and may be hard to hear, but that doesn’t make it any less true. This book should be required reading as much of it is still relevant today in our racist country.

Historia
Some Americans cling desperately to the myth that we are living in a post-racial society, that the election of the first Black president spelled the doom of racism. In fact, racist thought is alive and well in America - more sophisticated and more insidious than ever. And as award-winning historian Ibram X. Kendi argues in Stamped from the Beginning, if we have any hope of grappling with this stark reality, we must first understand how racist ideas were developed, disseminated, and enshrined in American society.

Enlightening
Revisado: 10-27-20
This was a very informative, well researched book on racism. I would recommend reading it rather than listening to it because there is a lot to take in and the author is no fool, meaning much of his message needs to be read and re-read to fully grasp what he is saying.

Historia
Things I’ll Never Forget is the story of a young high school graduate in 1965 who faces being drafted into the Army or volunteering for the Marine Corps. These are his memories of funny times, disgusting times and deadly times. The author kept a journal for an entire year; therefore many of the dates, times and places are accurate. The rest is based on memories that are forever tattooed on his brain. This is not a pro-war book, nor is it anti-war. It is the true story of what the Marine Corps was like in the late 1960’s.

A must read
Revisado: 03-11-20
I grew up obsessed with Vietnam, my friends dad had served and we always looked up to him for that. It’s nice (and very sad) to hear a true story of one mans experiences in the war. He tells his story with no embarrassment, machismo or apology for the things that happened. His sorrow however is felt and will stay with you. This, in my opinion, is a must read for the younger generations to know what our veterans went through and how they were treated for it.

Historia
Ulysses is regarded by many as the single most important novel of the 20th century. It tells the story of one day in Dublin, June 16th 1904, largely through the eyes of Stephen Dedalus (Joyce's alter ego from Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) and Leopold Bloom, an advertising salesman. Both begin a normal day, and both set off on a journey around the streets of Dublin, which eventually brings them into contact with one another.
