Heartbreaking Story
Revisado: 09-30-23
Perhaps the saddest story I've ever read. It's unimaginable what Sharon went through in her short life.
A true testament to an amazing, beautiful person who accomplished so much and touched so many under extremely difficult circumstances.
My heart aches for everyone involved in this story.

Historia
Tom Segura is known for his twisted takes and irreverent comedic voice. But after a few years of crazy tours and churning out podcasts weekly, all while parenting two young children, he desperately needs a second to himself. It’s not that he hates his friends and family — he’s not a monster — he’s just beat, which is why his son’s (ruthless) first full sentence, “I’d like to play alone, please,” has since become his mantra.

Great Listen for Segura Fans
Revisado: 06-26-22
Even if you read the book, the audiobook is worth listening to just to hear Tom's impersonations of his dad & mom.
His dad stories are priceless. Besides being very sad for Tom to lose his father, the rest of us lost the 1 or 2 insane stories a year Tom came away with after talking to his dad.

Historia
Captain Fantastic gives listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the rise, fall, and return to glory of one of the world's most mercurial performers. Rock journalist Tom Doyle's insider account of the Rocket Man's turbulent ascent is based on a series of one-on-one interviews in which Elton laid bare many previously unrevealed details of his early career. Here is an intimate exploration of Elton's working relationship with songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, whose lyrics often chronicled the ups and downs of their life together in the spotlight.

What an Amazing Life
Revisado: 05-21-22
The book is worth the price just to listen through the first five years of his career.
It's amazing the sheer number of songs Elton & Bernie wrote in those first few years together. And it's even more amazing how quickly Elton & his band could turn them into hit record after hit record.
But beyond all the record industry stories, the best part is discovering what an amazing person Elton is.
From his self deprecating sense of humor to picking up the road crew's enormous bar tab, to playing a local college gig for free on short notice, to buying his favorite football club, Reg never forgot where he came from and the world is a better place for it.

Historia
Now a number-one international best seller, Billion Dollar Whale is "an epic tale of white-collar crime on a global scale" (Publishers Weekly), revealing how a young social climber from Malaysia pulled off one of the biggest heists in history. In 2009, a chubby, mild-mannered graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business named Jho Low set in motion a fraud of unprecedented gall and magnitude—one that would come to symbolize the next great threat to the global financial system.

Unfortunately Just Not That Interesting of a Story
Revisado: 05-23-21
Sadly, in today's world, stories like this just don't register anymore.
We've seen the pieces of this story play out so many times in the last 20 years. And just like always, no one is held accountable and the only ones who suffer are average, working class tax paying citizens.
A narcissistic sociopath fakes his way into the room where big money deals are made, he has a few (mild at best) successes by merely standing near wildly successful people and investment banks (and banks) do what they always do, turn a blind eye while stuffing cash into their pockets.
I guess the unique twist here, at least for this American reader, is how many individuals were in the know and also turned a blind eye as long as they received their cut.
What's hilarious is, no matter if they didn't know the money was stolen, is how the same celebrities continue to show up to "support" Lo in all his endeavours. Not a good look for the millionaire hanger-ons. Don't these people have more important things to do than suffer this adolescent loser?
The research, reporting & writing are all top notch. I can't imagine the hours of research & fact checking involved in getting a story this detailed, involving so many wealthy individuals, to press.
But in the end, I feel an editor willing to stand up and say "I've heard enough 'Lo goes to Vegas with celebrities & blows millions' stories already, let's cut a few of them out!".
