Historia
Nine-year-old Ada has never left her one-room apartment. Her mother is too humiliated by Ada's twisted foot to let her outside. So when her little brother Jamie is shipped out of London to escape the war, Ada doesn't waste a minute - she sneaks out to join him. So begins a new adventure of Ada, and for Susan Smith, the woman who is forced to take the two kids in. As Ada teaches herself to ride a pony, learns to read, and watches for German spies, she begins to trust Susan.

Great read
Revisado: 05-25-21
The book was really good and well written. I really enjoyed the narrator. This is classified as a middle grade book, but I would suggest the parents preview it first as it does cover the tough topics of child abuse and World War II.

Historia
World War II continues, and Ada and her brother, Jamie, are living with their loving legal guardian, Susan, in a borrowed cottage on the estate of the formidable Lady Thorton - along with Lady Thorton herself and her daughter. Life in the crowded cottage is tense enough, and then, quite suddenly, Ruth, a Jewish girl from Germany, moves in. A German? The occupants of the house are horrified. But other impacts of the war become far more frightening. As death creeps closer to their door, life and morality during wartime grow more complex.

Great duology
Revisado: 05-25-21
Loved both books even the topics involved are very sensitive (child abuse and the Holocaust). This is a middle grade book, but I would advise parents to review both first.

Voices were weird
Revisado: 04-02-20
My kids enjoyed the story, but we could have done without the weird voices for each character.

Historia
In this infectious rhyming read-aloud, Baby Llama turns bedtime into an all-out llama drama! Tucked into bed by his mama, Baby Llama immediately starts worrying when she goes downstairs, and his soft whimpers turn to hollers when she doesn't come right back. But just in time, Mama returns to set things right. Children will relate to Baby Llama's need for comfort, as much as parents will appreciate Mama Llama's reassuring message.

Would recommend!

Any additional comments?
This is a really cute story about a llama that doesn't want to go to sleep because his mama isn't there. I would have thought it would have been better if Mr. Kennedy would have done voices for the characters, like most people reading a story to a kid do, but perhaps he wasn't allowed. That was the reason I gave it four stars though. My youngest (2 years) couldn't follow along as easily because he couldn't tell who was saying what. Since it is a kid's book, it also would have been nice to have a downloadable book to follow along with for the kids, especially those trying to learn to read like my 5 year old.

Seems like a good program, but not for a beginner
Revisado: 08-05-12
Any additional comments?
It seems that it is a good program, but it isn't for a true beginner. I am an ESL teacher and I found that I would not be able to use this program on most of my students as they have little knowledge of the English language. The first English sentence that opens the program is very long and the man and woman speak in a formal manner in which would be weird for most native speakers to talk. I would not recommend this program for a native Arabic speaker that is just beginning English. If you use this program, you should have a little bit of knowledge on how we pronounce letters as well as some basic words such as nouns and verbs before beginning this program.
