Historia
A group of friends gather at an Airbnb on New Year’s Eve. It is Benjamin’s birthday, and his sister Abigail is throwing him a jazz-age Murder Mystery themed party. As the night plays out, champagne is drunk, hors d’oeuvres consumed, and relationships forged, consolidated or frayed. Someone kisses the wrong person; someone else’s heart is broken. In the morning, all of them wake up—except Benjamin. As Abigail attempts to wrap her mind around her brother’s death, an eminent detective arrives determined to find Benjamin's killer.

A better physical book than audiobook
Revisado: 04-30-25
The creative bending of the genre did not lend itself to an audio version. The narrator was strong, but the actual presentation of the story would have worked better on the page.

Historia
It is said that when one person in a family is unstable, the whole family is destabilized. Meet the Shreds. Olivia is the sister in the spotlight until her stunning confidence becomes erratic and unpredictable, a hurricane leaving people wrecked in her wake. Younger sister Amy, cautious and studious to the core, believes in facts, proof, and the empirical world. None of that explains what’s happening to Ollie, whose physical beauty and charisma mask the mental illness that will shatter Amy’s carefully constructed life.

Not a new story
Revisado: 02-07-25
Re-tread of themes we’ve heard about often, all carried out in a sanitized setting. Very good reader.

Historia
Anisa Ellahi dreams of being a translator of “great works of literature,” but instead mostly spends her days subtitling Bollywood movies, living off her parents’ generous allowance, and discussing the “underside of life” with her best friend, Naima. Anisa’s mediocre white boyfriend, Adam, only adds to her growing sense of inadequacy with his savant-level aptitude for languages, successfully leveraging his expansive knowledge into an enviable career. But when Adam learns to speak Urdu with native fluency practically overnight, Anisa forces him to reveal his secret.

Memorable story, outstanding narrator
Revisado: 08-30-23
I won't discuss the plot at all because readers will have strong, personal responses to it, but the writing and many of her insights about translation and language were moving and insightful. I will definitely read Siddiqi’s next work!
As for the narrator, Balvinder Sopal is among the elite Audible narrators. Truly a memorable listen, with nuances of characters conveyed so clearly as well as a clear sense of the author’s rich style. She made this a fantastic experience—best of the best!
