Historia
Welcome to Chromatacia, where life is strictly regulated by one’s limited color perception. Civilization has been rebuilt after an unspoken “Something that Happened” five hundred years before. Society is now color vision—segregated, everything dictated by an individual’s visual ability, and governed by the shadowy National Color in far-off Emerald City. Twenty-year-old Eddie Russett, a Red, is about to go on trial for a murder he didn’t commit, and he’s pretty certain to be sent on a one-way trip to the Green Room for execution by soporific color exposure.

Happy to have the sequel
Revisado: 04-20-25
I hope there will be a third story to wrap up the tale. I understand there may not be.
But I’m happy to have this! The narrator was great. I was a little put off at first as he was different than the previous, but he still was wonderful and just as perfect in a completely different way.
Loved the book, and could read even more about the Chromogencia!

Historia
How did a libertine who lacks even the most basic knowledge of the Christian faith win 81 percent of the white evangelical vote in 2016? And why have white evangelicals become a presidential reprobate's staunchest supporters? Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping account of the last 75 years of white evangelicalism, showing how American evangelicals have worked for decades to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism.

Great and important read-but the narration: WHY?!
Revisado: 01-28-25
Great book! Got the audio to refresh while driving! But: read in a staggering way that is nonsensical. The pauses are so random!

Great but miss the old narrator
Revisado: 03-21-24
Please bring back the narration by Elizabeth Sastre!
Her Thursday is how I imagine her voice! More importantly, she bring the side character (ESPECIALLY Miss Havisham) to life!!! Bring her audio back!

Historia
In Jasper Fforde's Great Britain, circa 1985, time travel is routine, cloning is a reality (dodos are the resurrected pet of choice), and literature is taken very, very seriously. England is a virtual police state where an aunt can get lost (literally) in a Wordsworth poem and forging Byronic verse is a punishable offense. All this is business as usual for Thursday Next, renowned Special Operative in literary detection.

Where is the Elizabeth Sastre audio?!
Revisado: 03-21-24
Love this book! I hate that they changed the narrator from Elizabeth Sastre who did the BEST JOB over even Emily Gray!
Her Thursday was perfect and so were all her character voices! I wish I could pick if I wanted this updated

Historia
Young Eddie Russett has no ambition to be anything other than a loyal drone of the Collective. With his better-than-average red perception, he could well marry Constance Oxblood and inherit the string works; he may even have enough red perception to make prefect. For Eddie, life looks colorful. Life looks good. But everything changes when he moves with his father, a respected swatchman, to East Carmine. There, he falls in love with a Grey named Jane who opens his eyes to the painful truth behind his seemingly perfect, rigidly controlled society.

15 years…
Revisado: 02-09-24
I’ve been basically listening to this book off and on again since 2009.
It’s now 2024 February and the sequel “Red Side Story” is out in the UK, and due here in the US in May!
There’s possibly other books people have been waiting for sequels to longer than us Fforde fans…but idk who or what they are.
This story is one of my all time favorites and I hope more and more people will read/listen to it!
John Lee tells the story so perfectly, that I hope he’s the one to read the sequel—and if he is not, well whoever it is will have the largest shoes to fill!
I love the book! And I’m hoping some of my questions will be answered in RSS, and if not: I pray to God I don’t have to wait another decade and a half to have them answered!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!

Loved the Story
Revisado: 03-10-23
As many have already said, yes, the narrators voice does take getting some used to. That being said, it actually really helps to authenticate the location of the story, which is in North Carolina, and adds a sincerity to the main character.
This made it sound more like this was coming truly from a first person then it was an audiobook. Do with this what you will. Perhaps it’ll feel like a radio drama of olden times for that reason for you.
The story, however, is very fun, and I really enjoyed the take on King Arthur, Merlin, and the other Knights of the roundtable. Can’t wait to read/hear book 2!!!
