Historia
I used to work for the Telepath’s Guild before they kicked me out for a drug habit that wasn’t entirely my fault. Now I work for the cops, helping Homicide Detective Isabella Cherabino put killers behind bars. My ability to get inside the twisted minds of suspects makes me the best interrogator in the department. But the normals keep me on a short leash. When the Tech Wars ripped the world apart, the Guild stepped up to save it. But they had to get scary to do it - real scary.

Unique but familiar feeling
Revisado: 11-09-14
What did you love best about Clean?
The hero is quite flawed in that he is a recovering drug addict, and really struggles with cravings. He meets his Narcotics Anonymous sponsor almost every day. The cravings affect a lot of his thinking, and this comes through in the story narration.
What other book might you compare Clean to and why?
This book reminded me strongly of the Dresden Files. Male protagonist with magical abilities? Check. Hero is always in over his head and trying to fix things? Check. Works on consultant basis for police? Check. Police contact is a female and there is some chemistry? Check. Audiobook has incredible narration? Check.
Any additional comments?
The plot itself was interesting, and the case our hero is working on is a great introduction to the series. We get to meet all the main characters, and learn how they interact. I was surprised at how much I actually loved this world, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

"Curiosity is definitely going to get me dead one of these days. Probably real soon. I'm Gin Blanco. You might know me as the Spider, the most feared assassin in the South. I'm retired now, but trouble still has a way of finding me. Like the other day when two punks tried to rob my popular barbecue joint, the Pork Pit. Then there was the barrage of gunfire on the restaurant. Only, for once, those kill shots weren't aimed at me. They were meant for Violet Fox."

Exciting assassin story
Revisado: 11-09-14
What made the experience of listening to Web of Lies the most enjoyable?
I enjoyed Gin’s character and her antics. She’s sassy and straight forward and knows her mind. She’s a fun UF heroine who is a pleasant to watch work. The narration is a great voice for Gin, and is very easy to listen to.
Have you listened to any of Lauren Fortgang’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have only listed to Lauren Fortgang narrate this series, but I like her style. It really fits this series.
Any additional comments?
One thing I did notice about this book that I didn’t enjoy was the amount of repetition in it. There seemed like a lot of things were repeated over and over until I just wanted to scream. I’m not stupid, I don’t need the same details spelled out for me repeatedly.

October “Toby” Daye is a changeling, the daughter of Amandine of the fae and a mortal man. Like her mother, she is gifted in blood magic, able to read what has happened to a person through a mere taste of blood. Half-human, half-fae, outsiders from birth, most changelings are second-class children of Faerie spending their lives fighting for the respect of their immortal relations. Toby is the only changeling who has earned knighthood, and she re-earns that position every day.

Unique urban fantasy series with softer feel
Revisado: 11-09-14
What other book might you compare A Local Habitation to and why?
This is a very unique urban fantasy series in that it had a much softer feel than most UF. Toby is more mature, and the focus is more on growth and plot than on mindless action or sex.
What does Mary Robinette Kowal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narration has a soft mature tone that matches the story. The accents and voices used for all the characters were great. Quentin sounded like a teenager, and the accents on Sylvester and Tybalt were simply amazing.

Historia
The Winter Queen of Faerie has manipulated Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden into accepting a case to solve a murder and stop a war between the courts of Summer and Winter that could have literally earth shattering consequences. His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

A great book in a beloved series
Revisado: 08-10-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Summer Knight to be better than the print version?
Absolutely. The audiobook is the best way to experience this series as the narrator is a perfect fit for Harry.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Summer Knight?
The image of tiny fairies dressed for war and swooping down on pizza is highly amusing to be. There is enough detail provided that it's easy to imagine, but not so much as to be annoying.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. It's easy to get sucked into Harry's world and just enjoy the action.
Any additional comments?
Overall, this is a great addition to the series. It was interesting to get a glimpse into wizard politics, and even better to see some secondary characters from previous books. I can't wait to start the next one.

audiobook production really enhanced the story
Revisado: 05-04-14
Would you be willing to try another book from Lars Guignard? Why or why not?
Yes. I've listened to 2 of his stories, and they were both exciting espionage adventures. His storytelling is fast paced and action based.
What about Russell Jonas’s performance did you like?
The audiobook production really enhanced the story. Not only did the voice fit Michael’s personality, but I don’t think I’ve listened to a more involved narrator. The excitement and energy that the narrator brought made the story that much more harrowing. It’s obvious that the narrator got sucked into the story and the enthusiasm that he brought to the production was incredible.
Was Blown Circuit worth the listening time?
Yes. There is a lot of political and historical information which I found myself a little lost following. But the action more than makes up for it as the plots rolls by super fast with lots of twists, turns and surprises. It’s not really necessary to completely understand the political aspects to enjoy the urgency of the book.

Historia
As a null, Scarlett Bernard possesses a rare ability to counteract the supernatural by instantly neutralizing spells and magical forces. For years she has used her gift to scrub crime scenes of any magical traces, helping the powerful paranormal communities of Los Angeles stay hidden. But after LAPD detective Jesse Cruz discovered Scarlett's secret, he made a bargain with her: solve a particularly grisly murder case, and he would stay silent about the city's unearthly underworld.

Mostly background story to advance overall series
Revisado: 04-17-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would, but only if they really enjoyed the first book and wanted to read the whole series. This book did provide a lot of background to Scarlett’s life and character, and helped advance the overall series plot. It didn’t add a lot as a standalone story though.
Do you think Trail of Dead needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes. The ending has a lot of information and action that needs follow-up and explanation.
Any additional comments?
I spent a lot of time hoping that Eli would have a bigger presence. We got to see lots of Jesse, and I have to admit that I was getting bored of him. I wanted some beta werewolf to break up the monotony of the interactions between Scarlett and Jesse. Sadly, Eli was barely present in the story. He did make an appearance at the end with some surprise twists.

They call me the Spider. I'm the most feared assassin in the South -- when I'm not busy at the Pork Pit cooking up the best barbecue in Ashland. As a Stone elemental, I can hear everything from the whispers of the gravel beneath my feet to the vibrations of the soaring Appalachian Mountains above me. My Ice magic also comes in handy for making the occasional knife. But I don't use my powers on the job unless I absolutely have to. Call it professional pride.

Revisado: 04-17-14
If you could sum up Spider's Bite in three words, what would they be?
absolutely delightfully fun
What was one of the most memorable moments of Spider's Bite?
The story is told in a mostly straightforward timeline, however there were quite a few flashbacks near the end of the story. These flashbacks revealed a lot of Gin’s history, and were a great way to learn more about her. I like that they didn’t interrupt the flow of the main plotline. They seemed to mainly set the stage for a couple of big twists that popped up at the end.
What about Lauren Fortgang’s performance did you like?
The narration is spot on, with Gin’s attitude and emotions coming through loud and clear. I love when audiobook narration fits the characters so well. I couldn’t imagine Gin’s voice as anyone else now.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.

The world of Faerie never disappeared: it merely went into hiding, continuing to exist parallel to our own. Secrecy is the key to Faerie’s survival—but no secret can be kept forever, and when the fae and mortal worlds collide, changelings are born. Half-human, half-fae, outsiders from birth, these second-class children of Faerie spend their lives fighting for the respect of their immortal relations.

Slow start, but ends with excitement
Revisado: 04-17-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It felt like there should be a prequel to explain Toby’s history with turning into a koi, how she became human again, and the first few years afterward. A lot of that situation is only referred to offhandedly, and is a bit confusing.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favourite character was Tybalt, but he’s one of the least utilized people in the story. Every glimpse of him was exciting, and I wanted more. I fully expected to see the hate relationship between him and Toby develop into something else, and I was surprised when it didn’t.
Any additional comments?
Romance actually plays a very little role in the story at all, which is quite refreshing from most urban fantasy stories. Also unique is the fact that Toby gets hurt, a lot, and doesn’t instantly rebound. Yes, she does recover with some magical assistance, but she has realistic limitations, and can’t push herself past them with no consequence. It makes the action scenes more interesting because this is definitely not the typical action story where only the good guys land bullets with every shot.

Great narration for unique story
Revisado: 12-28-13
What made the experience of listening to Mind Games the most enjoyable?
The first person narration, combined with the perfectly fitting voice made listening to the book very enjoyable.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I loved Justine. Even though she had a serious hypochondriac issue, and wanted to be free of her fear more than anything, she wasn't willing to comprise her sense of morals to do it. She was extremely strong and supportive of her own needs, as well as the others around her.
Which character – as performed by Rebecca Wisocky – was your favorite?
Justine was my favourite. The voice fit her so well, in age, tone and emotion.
Any additional comments?
The only part of the book that I didn’t like was the amount of sexuality that was included. Not just appearing in a potential love triangle, it also came up in a few instances when Justine was working with targets. The scenes were just short of explicit, but they were not clean in any way.

When LA’s vampires, witches, and werewolves make a mess, they call Scarlett Bernard to clean it up. Her ability as a null erases all magical traces from anything—or anyone—that comes within ten feet of her, and keeps humans in the dark about the city’s paranormal activity. Exciting story with unique ability
Revisado: 12-12-13
If you could sum up Dead Spots in three words, what would they be?
Exciting, Fun and Sympathetic
Which character – as performed by Amy McFadden – was your favorite?
The narration fit Scarlett's character perfectly. She was honest and humourous, and very easy to listen to. I also loved the accent given to Jesse's character.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The ending had some killer twists and reveals. This book's storyline was wrapped up nicely, but there are certainly exciting things coming next.
Any additional comments?
The budding love triangle is done very tastefully. Both guys are so sweet and nice. At the end of the first book, I totally sympathize with Scarlett’s inability to decide between them. The pros for both look pretty good, and the cons are livable at this point.
