Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Mature, Deeply Engaging
Revisado: 01-01-25
Like untold listeners, I was addicted to Joe Bishop and Skippy. However, I felt that Alanson tended to the sophmoric and immature for cheap, easy laughs. He has said so himself. This book, however, is different. It is mature, with deep character development. There are no cheap “Perils of Pauline.” This starts a series, I hope, of an struggle of growth, discovery, and challenge that transcends Expeditionary Force. Strongly recommended.

Historia
In another galaxy, far, far away from Earth, an evil Empire controls 3/4ths of the star systems and yearns for more. Those regions not under their control have either traded obedience for their sovereignty, are too wild to tame, or too dangerous for Imperial troops to tread upon. The main thorn in the Emperor's side is the Frontier, which occupies a third of the lawless and barbaric Outer Rim. Countless commanders and fleets have been sent to pacify and annex it into the Empire. All have failed.

Historia
Chase had it all planned out. Do a little time in one of the emperor's jails, say a four-year stretch, for getting rid of some trash that no one would miss, and when he got out, the path to leadership would be wide open. Unfortunately, his bastard of a father, the same one who left his mother to die in poverty and him to run wild on the streets, took an interest. Seeing him sitting on the bench when his case went to court was a shock. But not as big a shock as being sentenced to ten years in the Imperial Navy.

Historia
For years, the ancient alien AI known as Skippy (the Magnificent, don’t forget that part) has been able to do one impossible thing after another. What is his secret? It’s simple: 100 percent Grade-A extreme awesomeness. And also because he had never been faced with an opponent of equal power. Until now. This time, he might need a little help from a band of filthy monkeys.

Continues the Awesomeness
Revisado: 07-18-22
Unlike many other authors, Alanson has matured all of the usual suspects. Even His Awesomeness has grown. This keeps the over-arching narrative interesting and enjoyable. I should also mention that the incomparable R.C. Bray has expanded his voices and sounds. Impressive. Waiting for the next installment.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Revisado: 02-17-22
This was one of the cleverest, most entertaining books I've listened to in a long time. The narration was great and the storyline completely unexpected. And, all of it was based on plausible science. Really well done and recommended.

Suspend Your Common Sense
Revisado: 01-24-22
If you have nothing better to do and need to waste 33 hours on a long drive or flight and you are willing to suspend all common sense and belief, this might work for you. On the plus side, the characterization is good. Lot's of interesting characters show up and are pretty well developed. On the negative side, the plot is beyond believable and the author has no grasp of simple things like air (or space) traffic control, restricted airspaces, and hundreds of other modern restrictions that would make many of the actions impossible. The author also resorts to "magic" to solve plot problems, which is a no-no for a serious piece of fiction. Finally, this series is more of Perils of Pauline than a well-planned plot. Every ending is a cliff=hangar with no ultimate resolution. It gets tiring. The fight scenes also are unrealistic, and writing as a 3d degree black belt, I could tell that the author does not have a lot of martial arts training. Again, "magic" solves the plot contradictions. I doubt that I will purchase anymore from this series unless I am in serious need of a long, distracting listen with no real substance.

Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

This was a fun surprise
Revisado: 01-17-22
This book follows the usual young guy finds a spaceship and does battle with the bad guys. Still, I found it very entertaining. More interestingly, Jeffrey Kafer performed a very good narration. I listened to Kafer in his early years and frankly, could not stand him. I have avoided books he has narrated for that reason. I took a chance on this one. I have to say that he has matured as a narrator and has managed to move out of his early annoying monotone to actually voice characters. Good job Mr. Kafer.

Even the great R.C.Bray has his limits...
Revisado: 07-21-21
I like long listens until they get boring and repetitious. I quit with 5 hours left to listen. RC Bray does his usual amazing job, but even he can't make an average story great. If you've got nothing but 15 hours of tedius driving ahead of you, this works. But it is not captivating.
