Historia
The silent rush of footsteps, the muffled shriek, the ever-tightening noose of exotic silk…the mark of the Cat. The Cat had claimed number nine.
The Cat had nine kills, but Ellery Queen found number ten alive and offered the victim temptingly to the killer. The trap was baited, and Ellery and the police poised for the strike that had to come. But the strangler struck elsewhere - and Queen's heart chilled at the thought of what he would find.

Not really a mystery novel
Revisado: 02-23-24
Ellery Queen books are extremely varied because of different authors. I think this is the only one I've read that I actually disliked. 40ish pages of the cities reaction, 40ish pages of waiting and arguing, 30ish pages of wandering & travel, 40ish pages of pretty predictable mystery. There are plenty of great Ellery Queen books to read instead though.

Great Early Science Fiction (Not The Best Title)
Revisado: 11-02-23
I did not read this until recently and it became one of my favorite early science fiction novels. It explores many aspects of religion without being a religious novel. It mixes science fiction and religion impressively. And the characters are fantastic!

A Time Management Parody
Revisado: 09-20-23
This "book" was so ridicously vague and/or unrealistic about what you needed to do and what you would gain that it sounded like a satire.
I'm paraphrasing because I am not going to spend any time relistening to this junk "never listen to music in the car, that is a waste of your time. Listen to educational audio and in a couple of years you will be at the top of your field." Almost every suggestion, no matter how small would "put you at the top of your field".
This book is a complete joke.

Historia
In 1994, Christopher Buckley published one of the most acclaimed and successful comic novels of the decade, Thank You for Smoking. Now, Buckley returns to the strange land of Washington, DC, in Little Green Men, a millennial comedy of manners about aliens and pundits...and how much they have in common. The reluctant hero of this hilarious novel is John Oliver Banion, a stuffy Washington talk-show host, whose privileged life is thrown into upheaval when aliens abduct him from his exclusive country-club golf course.

Similar to Buckley's other works. Great.
Revisado: 09-12-23
I really enjoyed Little Green Men and have listened to it twice. It made me laugh frequently and for me at least, it is a relaxing feel good read.
Great cast of oddball characters who are definitely not static throughout the book.
If you like Buckley's work you will probably enjoy this.

Historia
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

Not Heinlein's best but still very good
Revisado: 09-18-20
This isn't as much science fiction as 30s Detective meets supernatural. As long as you don't mind the genre shift from his primary work, it is enjoyable and if course well written.

Historia
On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik I, and the space race was born. Desperate to beat the Russians into space, NASA put together a crew of the nation's most daring test pilots: the seven men who were to lead America to the moon. The first into space was Alan Shepard; the last was Deke Slayton, whose irregular heartbeat kept him grounded until 1975. They spent the 1960s at the forefront of NASA's effort to conquer space, and Moon Shot is their inside account of what many call the 20th century's greatest feat - landing humans on another world.

There are angels, and they are not beneficent or loving. But they do watch over us. They watch our lives unfold, analyzing us for repeating patterns and redundancies. When they find them, the angels simplify those patterns and remove the redundancies, and the problem that is "you" gets solved.

Not terrible , just predictable.
Revisado: 09-19-16
I would have given the story two stars but I could see the author improving with subsequent books.
The environments and tone were good. I enjoyed authentic references to non obvious old punk bands(Dead Boys, Rocket From The Tombs) and locations (Max's).
Unfortunately the plot was pretty predictable with everything being invincible until it wasn't.

Historia
What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

Very entertaining. The story lines were woven together nicely. The reader should have at least a passing familiarity with role playing games but you wouldn't need to be a serious gamer to enjoy it.
