Narration is great and the story flows with so many sexy scenes you can’t get bored. Great read for someone who is bi/pan.

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods...or monsters. I still can't decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me. Then there's Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn't felt anything for a hundred years.

Mediocre YA
Revisado: 11-08-22
This was advertised as a cross between Twilight and Hinger games. Not sure where the hunger games part comes in. They referenced Twilight in the book but it felt more like a knock off of Legacies Netflix series (also mentioned). The fact that the main character speaks/thinks in the form of text messages “he was hot AF” type rubbish is just annoying. I guess they tried to keep some of the verbiage clean but it just felt off. Narration was okay but lacked character depth. Not worth continuing the series.

Best of the best
Revisado: 08-12-22
Julia Wehlan’s narration is of course superb. This story was brilliantly written too. How many books make you actually laugh out loud, not just a “haha that was funny”, but a proper loud laugh? It’s a story with surprise, love, growth, truth and beauty. It will definitely be re-read multiple times.

Historia
Mode Magazine is one of New York City’s premier fashion glossies and Hilary Baxter has just been contracted as one of their models. The culture shock she experiences between her small-town Kansas life and the glamour of the Big Apple is nothing compared to the thrill she gets when Mode’s charismatic publisher Bret Bardoff takes a personal interest in guiding her career. Unable to resist Bret’s seductive allure, Hilary’s infatuation turns into love—a love she hopes is strong enough for Bret to see the person behind the beauty.

This book did not age well
Revisado: 07-09-22
I didn’t realize when I downloaded that this was first published in 1982. This book does not age well. The male interest is a pushy misogynist whose only redeeming quality is that he’s rich. He’s very Christian Grey without the kink or caring qualities. The lead girl somehow thinks she’s in love with him after he throws a fit when she stops him from having sex with her during making out. There is a whole paragraph of him saying that “if you kiss a guy like that there are certain expectations of where it is going to lead”. Apparently No does not mean no to this guy or makes her a tease for responding to any physical attention. Especially considering the current lack of women’s rights in the US right now I could not finish this book. The narration must have been in Julia’s early days too as the voice is very different from books you hear her read now. She is my favorite narrator which is why I downloaded this book but this was my least favorite performance combined with a very poor book.

He was perfect. Denim blue eyes, a dazzling smile. And he hadn’t sent me a picture of his junk. Which is about as rare, these days, as a dodo. When Sloane met Myles, everything fell into place. He loved a martini almost as much as she did, shared her passion for four-cheese pizzas, and made her laugh harder than any episode of Friends. She’d found 'The One' at last, and she could finally delete Tinder, forgetting all those waste-of-space men she’d never have to date again. But then she finds out that Myles has a secret. A very big one.

Inconsistent character with odd story line
Revisado: 11-09-21
The main character is supposedly a "feminist" to the point she won't change her last name when married, but when she thinks she might have been cheated on she falls apart and blames herself allowing herself to be gaslighted numerous times. But then her feminist side comes back to the extreme when discussing baby options. I still have no idea the purpose of this book. I hate not finishing a book but I was struggling to finish this. This just doesn't flow well and too many things just "happen" and end up okay.

Historia
Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she’s been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died: she’s stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too.

I love end of the world/zombie stories and this one is very well written. The narrator is my favorite as well and with so many characters they are all voiced brilliantly. The whole series is fantastic and the best of the series Sarah Lyons Fleming has written. I like the other ones with her brother and then west coast version but this is by far the best.

The human race is all but extinct after a war with Partials - engineered organic beings identical to humans - has decimated the population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by RM, a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island while the Partials have mysteriously retreated. The threat of the Partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to RM in more than a decade. Our time is running out.

A new twist on sci fi and end of the world
Revisado: 11-17-14
Definitely kept me reading and interested. Following Kiera through her journey and all she learns was great. Plus a little love triangle never hurts. Definitely one I couldn't stop listening to/reading. Be forewarned though, the 2nd book drags... So disappointing to go from such a great book to such a blah book.

Kira Walker has found the cure for RM, but the battle for the survival of humans and Partials is just beginning. Kira has left East Meadow in a desperate search for clues to who she is. That the Partials themselves hold the cure for RM in their blood cannot be a coincidence - it must be part of a larger plan, a plan that involves Kira, a plan that could save both races. Her companions are Afa Demoux, an unhinged drifter and former employee of ParaGen, and Samm and Heron, the Partials who betrayed her and saved her life, the only ones who know her secret. But can she trust them?

Not as exciting as the first...
Revisado: 11-17-14
I loved Partials and was excited to listen to this 2nd book, but to be honest I never made it to the end. It felt like the story was going nowhere. It was a lot of the same old, same old. 3/4 of the way through and they were nowhere closer to figuring out anything. I'm all for suspense, but you've got to give me at least a little something to keep me going. I finally gave up on actually learning anything for the story moving forward. Disappointing as Partials I loved so much I had on my ipad for reading and on audible to listen to.

Historia
From Charlaine Harris, the best-selling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale - populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that's how the locals prefer it. Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It' s a pretty standard dried-up western town.

Good mystery novel with excentric characters
Revisado: 11-17-14
What did you love best about Midnight Crossroad?
Another well written mystery by Charlaine Harris. It was wonderful to have one of her side characters get his own series, though he didn't quite feel like the main character in this. Manfred felt like just another side character, where the main character was either Bobo or Fiji. While they were wonderful characters, I would have liked to see Manfred a bit more involved in the story, but the other characters are great in and of themselves that it worked just to learn about them.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mr. Snuggly! I love how the true nature of a lazy cat is capture in him. (If you haven't read the book yet, then you'll understand this a whole lot better after. Not going to give anything away.)
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did take a few breaks. It was interesting but it wasn't until the last quarter of the book where I didn't want to stop listening. There isn't any romance in this one, unlike other novels by Charlaine Harris. There's a lot of wanting, but no actual 'getting'. Sometimes that spice keeps things going.
Any additional comments?
Overall a good story and hope to read/listen to more in the future. Hoping for something with Manfred a bit more prominent now that he's settled in Midnight.

Historia
Charlaine Harris' smash-hit Sookie Stackhouse series may have reached its conclusion, but the world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, lives on in this all-new collection of 15 stories. Written by a killer lineup of authors, including New York Times best-sellers Rachel Caine, MaryJanice Davidson, Jonathan Maberry and Seanan McGuire, and with introductions read by Charlaine herself, Dead but Not Forgotten puts your favorite characters center stage.

Nice to visit old characters, but lacking somewhat
Revisado: 11-17-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Hearing about the different characters' lives is great, but from other authors views is a little disenchanting. I guess I'm also not much for the short story variety. By the time I get into a story it's ending.
Any additional comments?
It was fun to enter into this world again, but with Sookie not really in most of the stories it felt lacking. Like the main character was missing all the time. I think I would have a preferred something written directly by Charlaine Harris. I fell in love with the characters she wrote about and hearing "new things" about a character that don't seem to fit that mold ruins the experience a bit. Overall it's interesting but I think I'll stick with the stories she writes herself.
