A clear path
Revisado: 12-26-21
This book has given me a clear path to submitting to God's plan for my growth and transformation as a believer. I have loved Him all my life and consciously followed
Him and led others to know Him for more than 50 years. But the kind of transformation presented in this book will equip me to grow at a much deeper level. it also inspires me and gives me a path to make disciples, starting with my grandchildren. Thank you, Rick, for your obedience and your leadership.

How the Irish Saved Civilization

Historia
Thomas Cahill tells the story of how Europe evolved from the classical age of Rome to the medieval era. Without Ireland, the transition could not have taken place. Not only did Irish monks and scribes maintain the very record of Western civilization, they brought their uniquely Irish world-view to the task. As Cahill delightfully illustrates, so much of the liveliness we associate with medieval culture has its roots in Ireland. When the seeds of culture were replanted on the European continent, it was from Ireland that they were germinated.

If each of us brought the same level of single-mindedness and dedication to our daily lives, the world would be a very different place. Thank you, Tracy Kidder, for chronicling the ventures of this man and his team.

Historia

Riveting story!
Revisado: 07-18-17
Would you listen to La Fille de Brooklyn suivi d'un entretien inédit avec l'auteur again? Why?
I normally am not drawn to mystery as a genre, but because I have read another of his books, I thought I would give this one a try. Wow - what a great surprise! Altho the book gets quite dark in places (and that's not something I tolerate easily), the rise and fall of the plot were riveting - a real page turner! And yes, I am already listening again. The twists at the end made me realize that I would have to listen to the whole story a second time because the new information which was revealed would change the way I viewed all of the developments up until that point. I don't know that I've ever read another author who switched from first person to third and back again, just to be able to give a 360 degree account of all parts of the unfolding story. Brilliant!Musso has amazing powers of description, and is a master at infusing his characters with very colorful and complex personalities. Another factor which draws me to him as an author.
What other book might you compare La Fille de Brooklyn suivi d'un entretien inédit avec l'auteur to and why?
As I mentioned earlier, this is not a genre I am drawn to, so I'm not really able to make a comparison.
Which character – as performed by Rémi Bichet – was your favorite?
Raphael - the main character - was definitely my favorite. A true gentleman in every situation. A man who loved his fiancee with his whole heart, and appreciated the littlest things about who she was and what she brought to the relationship. I loved that he would leave no stone unturned to find her after she disappeared. His instincts in looking for clues were brilliant and his powers of deduction, intriguing. I loved seeing the trust that he had in his friend, the former policeman / investigator. A real bond of friendship and trust. And I loved the delight that he found in his infant son, how he talked about the incalculable blessings of being a parent.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes!!! Normally I am not in a hurry to finish a book I am listening to. But once I started this one, it was such a page-turner that I actually took one whole day of my vacation to just listen to the rest - all the way to the end! So glad I did!
Any additional comments?
The recording artist is very gifted, and uses his voice to 'embody' so many different personalities throughout the story. So convincing! My only additional comment is re: the pace of the audio recording. French is my second language, but I grew up in France and have spoken the language since childhood. I listen to books in French on a daily basis, recorded by a wide variety of artists, and never have trouble "listening fast enough". With this audio recording, I had to slow it down to 85% to hear things clearly. I hasten to add that I'm sure a native speaker would probably not have this problem. Nevertheless, I would encourage him to slow down his pace a bit.

I love this book. Seth Godin always has his finger on the pulse of the times. Great book to read after Permission Marketing. We are in an age where social is everything where marketing is concerned, and Tribes shows us how to leverage the power of all things social while empowering others.
