Historia
I had everything — school quarterback, popular with girls, and my dad was proud of me. I told myself it didn’t matter no one knew the real me. And then I nearly died. Landon saved my life. He’s the bravest guy I know. He came out a few years ago, proud and fierce, and he ran into gunfire to help others. Me, I’m a mess. Can’t even stand to be in a room with the curtains open. But here’s the thing about losing it all: You get a chance to start over and be someone new.

Excellent
Revisado: 11-20-20
I couldn't stop listening to this book. The trauma Brian faces after being shot in school is so true to life that its almost hard to listen to but thats also what makes it so great. Landon saved his life but his trauma plays out in rage and wanting to petition for more gun control, for making changing that will have lasting change. Meanwhile Brian is scared to go back to school seeks out shooters when he is in public and has trouble sleeping due to the nightmares. But in the midst of all the chaos Brian also learns that life is short and sometimes you have to choose to hide or stand up. Although this book is full of hard stuff and reading about mass shooting is no easy task it is so well done that I couldn't stop reading. Yes it is horrific but like the news I couldn't turn it off. Excellent reading. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

It's a lethal world at the best of times, and Dan knows his number is almost up. His next job could be his last - and his next job is his biggest yet. The target sounds trackable enough: Jacques Fillon, who gave up his life trying to save a fellow passenger following a bus crash in northern Sweden. But the man was something of an enigma in this rural community, and his death exposes his greatest secret.

Great Spy Novel
Revisado: 04-04-17
Someone is tying up loose ends, and one of those loose ends is Dan. Running for his life and those of his friends he finds himself taking a job to find out the real identity of a man named Jacques Fillon. Fillon saved a young girl from a bus crash but doesn't really exist. If Dan can find out who Fillon was he could save himself and his friends.
This is a fast paced spy thriller with quite a lot of non graphic violence and sex. Dan is an assassin but is he a good guy? Can any assassin be considered good? Wignall tries to make Dan the hero of this book which is a difficult task but one I think he ultimately achieves.
With a lot of twists and turns and more going on than meets the eye this was a great spy mystery. The author brought the story to life. Overall a very satisfying listen.

Historia
Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful - and cruel - father. Now Scarlett's father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the faraway once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over. But this year Scarlett's long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval's mastermind organizer, Legend.

Dark and Twisty
Revisado: 03-20-17
carlett has been obsessed with stories of Caraval and has been writing to Legend the head of the Caraval for years begging him to come their small island but she has never received an answer until now.
In order to win Caraval Scarlett will need to find the strength to stand on her own instead of being so afraid. In fact that may be the only way to truly save her sister...and herself.
With lots of twist and turns this story holds your attention keeps you on your toes and keeps you interested. However this is a very dark story and may not be for all YA readers. Descriptive with an intricately woven story I really found myself lost in the action.
Narrator Rebecca Soler also narrated the Cinder Series by Marissa Meyer and I loved her reading so much it lead me to this book and I was not disappointed.

Meditations don't need to be long to be effective. In fact the longer they are the less people tend to return to them. I thought these were good short relaxing meditations that really hit to the root of people's fears and help to transform our negative thoughts into positive thoughts. After listening to this every day for a week I could feel a shift in my thinking, I didn't feel as dragged down by the little things and was better able to cope with what life threw at me. There is something to be said for thinking positive and letting go of negative emotions.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

fascinating
Revisado: 03-13-17
Nate's new apartment seems too good to be true. The rent is cheap and all utilities are included. It isn't until he moves in that he starts to realize there are some strange things going on. None of the apartments in the building are the same size or shape. Each one has something strange about it from no kitchen, to vaulted ceilings, bathrooms that look like a cave, and a kitchen light that only glows as a blacklight no matter what type of bulb you use.
Nate and his neighbors embark on a search for what is happening inside their building and make some even more disturbing observations. Mysterious writing behind wallpaper, writing that can only be seen in black light written in Cyrillic in a kitchen all within a building that isn't connected to the main city power grid yet has power. There is definitely more than meets the eye to this building but could it be the key to an even bigger mystery that started 100 of years ago.
The narrator was fabulous, he did a great job with the different voices for different characters, I almost forgot it was just one person narrating. The mystery really built and there were a lot of great modern day references to TV shows throughout. Very clever writing. This was a great book to listen to and a great mystery. It totally sucked me in.

Must Listen
Revisado: 03-13-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Born a Crime to be better than the print version?
yes, I couldn't imagine reading this - listening to the stories told by Trevor Noah was best heard with his lilting South African voice. Not to mention listening to him speak the different African languages.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Born a Crime?
There are too many
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I found myself laughing out loud several times, this is a great listen. I recommend it to everyone .

Great story
Revisado: 03-13-17
What did you love best about The Cuckoo's Calling?
I love the characters. Both Strike and Robin were both great. The story kept you engaged and wondering did Lula really commit suicide or did something else happen?
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, there were so many pieces that it kept me wanting to know more.
Which character – as performed by Robert Glenister – was your favorite?
I loved Robin - she is a fabulous strong willed woman who seems to be able to tame Strike and really make him an even better detective.

Well researched and full of terrible truths
Revisado: 12-11-16
What did you love best about The Underground Railroad (Oprah's Book Club)?
Once Cora and Caesar ran away the book picked up and just the descriptions of injustices and the acceptance of them as normal was riveting and sad to read
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Narration was a bit droning. Could have done a better job with someone with more animation in their voice.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Cora stood up to the doctors and nurses about being sterilized.
Any additional comments?
Description of the underground railroad was a bit too fictionalized and may confuse people..it wasn't actually an underground system.

Fabulous ending to this series
Revisado: 12-06-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Winter to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version - I would could have finished the print version faster than listening to this but I think it was worth the time..
What other book might you compare Winter to and why?
This book had similarities with the ending of The Hunger Games, with the outside sectors dedicated to different resources and the main city being grandiose and full of people with outrageous outfits.
Which character – as performed by Rebecca Soler – was your favorite?
I don't know if I can pick just one. I loved them all, although Iko always made me smile with her ridiculously giddy attitude.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
That would be a feat - no its just not possible.
