The type of leadership described here will make sailors proud to serve in the U.S. Navy. The principles should be applied to business, sports, education, youth development, church, and every other leadership environment.

Historia
The U.S. Constitution was approved by the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787. It was to become law only if it was ratified by nine of the 13 states. New York was a key state, but it contained strong forces opposing the Constitution. A series of 85 letters appeared in New York City newspapers between October 1787 and August 1788 urging support for the Constitution. These letters remain the first and most authoritative commentary on the American concept of federal government.

summary of the federalist papers
Revisado: 07-05-21
This isn't The Federalist Papers. It's a summary with some historical analysis. The analysis is good and it is interesting, but the 1986 chapter transition music and the voice actors are distractions.

Historia
In the predawn hours of March 4, 2002, just below the 10,000-foot peak of a mountain in eastern Afghanistan, a fierce battle raged. Outnumbered by Al Qaeda fighters, Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman and a handful of SEALs struggled to take the summit in a desperate bid to find a lost teammate. Chapman, leading the charge, was gravely wounded in the initial assault. Believing he was dead, his SEAL leader ordered a retreat. Chapman regained consciousness, alone with the enemy closing in on three sides, beginning the most difficult and exceptional fight of his life.

Well written, engaging history
Revisado: 02-05-20
This was an interesting and informative account. The authors did a good job describing the missions and experiences of John Chapman and the men with whom he served. I was interested to learn about the Air Force CCTs. However, I agree with some other comments that the praise of CCTs in general was a little bit overstated when compared to other special operations forces, and the criticisms of other SOF, especially SEALs, was excessive.

Good brief summary
Revisado: 11-08-17
This is a good brief summary of the Civil War. It covers the issues, the major battles, and the most prominent characters. I would like more detail, but that is available in other books.
I appreciate the author's frequent recommendations for further reading.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Good biography
Revisado: 11-04-17
I thought this was a detailed and well written biography of General Grant. It attempts to rehabilitate Grant's sad reputation as one of our worst presidents and a butcher general who sacrificed too many of his own troops in his defeat of the vastly outnumbered rebels. The book leaves the reader sympathizing with and admiring Grant for his lifelong humility, his guileless honesty, and his unfailing devotion to duty. If the book is accurate, then Grant's greatest failures were a result of projecting his own positive traits onto others and trusting too much in the honorable nature of his friends and advisors.
My one critical point is the way the author deals with Grant's alcoholism. Grant struggled with alcohol through his entire life. The book does not attempt to gloss over this fact, but I thought it spent too much time trying to determine how much of each reported drinking episode was true and how much of it was exaggerated or made up by his military and political rivals. It is certain that Grant's enemies used stories of his drinking to their advantage whenever they could, but I just wasn't interested in the courtroom like analysis of whether each witness' story should be trusted.
The narration was clear and easy to understand. I liked the narrator's voice, cadence, and consistency. There were a few words here and there that made me question the pronunciation. 'Patently' is an example that came up so often that I stopped to look it up. The dictionary I used listed that as a chiefly British pronunciation. It sounded odd to me, but it wasn't a problem. I would listen to other books by this narrator.

Historia
It was a moment unique in human history: the face-to-face meeting between two men from civilizations a world apart. In 1519, Hernán Cortés arrived on the shores of Mexico, determined not only to expand the Spanish empire but to convert the natives to Catholicism and carry off a fortune in gold. That he saw nothing paradoxical in his intentions is one of the most remarkable and tragic aspects of this unforgettable story.
