Historia
When Eric Carter helps a friend with a deadly ritual that could determine the fate of the most powerful mage family in Los Angeles he steps into the middle of centuries-long feuds with people who make the Borgias look like the Brady Bunch. Eric's just fine with the murder, soul eaters, and death magic. He's just having trouble adjusting to being brought back from the grave. If he's not careful, somebody's going to put him right back.

This was fine
Revisado: 04-14-24
Overall, this was an enjoyable read, Unfortunately, the romance is to me clunky and unnecessary, and as such is a distraction, which is why my rating is on the lower side. It is an interesting the low stakes ya adventure with very few surprises but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t entertaining.

Pay no regard to the reviews disparaging this book for being “woke” or “political”
Revisado: 03-13-23
Pay no regard to the reviews disparaging this book for being “woke” or “political”. First of all, representing under represented groups in your storytelling, is the right thing to do. Second, while there are gay couples in the book (only two), they are side characters and are hardly mentioned until near to the end of the book. The story of the first couple mentioned is a continuation of their story from the first book (so shouldn’t be a surprise), and it’s brief. The second couple are not actually characters in the book, but in a fable told to our main protagonist, the moral of which is not civil rights or equality, but rather the virtues of hard work. I find it very difficult to call this a politically charged story or to perceive it as pushing some gay agenda.
To actually review the story, I found it to be a bit long. It dragged in spots for me, but overall, a wonderful conclusion to the story. While inspired by the classic Rumpelstiltskin it nicely subverts it to give us more realistic, fleshed out characters with substantial motivations. The narration is also well done, though I wish the narrator were more adept at voices so that the characters could be more distinctive.

Historia
Every year in the United States there are fifteen thousand murders, give or take a few hundred. Of those, nearly forty percent go unsolved. In this six-part audio series, Christina Walsh is determined to change that. After struggling with the loss of her father, she sets out on a journey to bring the justice that has eluded her to the families of other victims. And she starts with a particularly strange case. The murder of world-renowned violinist Leona McPherson who mysteriously disappeared years ago after a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Great story annoying main characters.
Revisado: 01-18-23
This is a fantastic story! I like the dark mystery that Sanderson and Wells have crafted here. It’s a nice departure. Refreshing departure from Sanderson’s, regular fantasy fair. The overall mystery is extremely engaging which is why I put up with my frustration with the main characters. They are supposed to be college students at NYU but their behavior is more in line with that of a 12 or 13-year-old. They don’t present themselves as mature adults. I understand that a college student is still young, but they are supposed to be over 18. At that age, I would often interview older working professionals for projects and things and I can tell you, I never used profanity during those interviews and I didn’t ask silly. College students should speak with much more maturity and deference to their elders than these characters do. They come off very immature and disrespectful. This is very disappointing coming from Sanderson, especially considering I just finished his book Tres of the Emerald Sea, and that young character is very well depicted.

Great companion for Cosmere fans
Revisado: 01-01-23
If like me you have already read many of Sanderson’s Cosmere books, and find yourself wanting more understanding of the other planets or have experienced characters that seem mysterious, then this collection is for you. The stories are great and so are the narrations, however I have to deduct a star for Hope of Elantris.
It is always off-putting to have different narrators for books that have the same characters. The reader-listener imprints the voice and pronunciations of all the characters from the original narration into their minds. If in subsequent installments, voice and pronunciations are changed, consuming those installments can have cringe worthy moments for the reader–listener This is what I experienced with hope of Elantris. I wish producers would at least make sure the narrators use the same pronunciation for characters and place names if the original narrator cannot be used. Otherwise, it just sounds all wrong.

The one thing you never talk about while you’re in the Scholomance is what you’ll do when you get out. Not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way. But it’s all we dream about: the hideously slim chance we’ll survive to make it out the gates and improbably find ourselves with a life ahead of us, a life outside the Scholomance halls. And now the impossible dream has come true. I’m out, we’re all out. We saved everyone. So much for my great-grandmother’s prophecy of doom and destruction. Ha, only joking! Actually, it’s gone all wrong.

Not as good as the first two
Revisado: 11-30-22
Story is good, and it came to a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, but by comparison to the first two novels, it’s a bit dull.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

It really is unabridged
Revisado: 07-13-21
I was concerned by some of the reviews that talked about this not being a fully read version of the book so I decided to read along with the narration and it sure enough is an unabridged version. My only problem is with the performance. I don’t like how the voice actors keep switching back-and-forth. It was particularly annoying with Vlad Harkonen. In a normal full cast recording one actor sticks to a particular character or characters. In this performance the narrator‘s jump around it’s very unsettling.

Unhealthy romance but every thing else good
Revisado: 02-26-21
The romantic and sexual relationship of the main characters is distracting from the mystery which is very compelling. Their relationship is also at times disturbing and unhealthy. If the story spent less time describing their sex play (in which the male is always the dominant and near to forcing himself upon the female) and their attempts at seducing one another, I would’ve happily given this four stars. The narration is good. The characters are very interesting and the mystery is compelling.

Cara Devon has always suffered curiosity and impetuousness, but tangling with a serial killer might cure that. Permanently. The romance and sex detract from the story
Revisado: 02-22-21
The story and the mystery are really very interesting and the performance is fantastic so I really want to give this a five but the romance just isn’t believable and I found myself just so disinterested with the sex scenes I just kept forwarding through it to get back to the larger story. However I really like the main character and as stated above the overall mystery was really great so I am going to try the other books in the series.
