In the spirit of Steve Jobs and Moneyball, Elon Musk is both an illuminating and authorized look at the extraordinary life of one of Silicon Valley's most exciting, unpredictable, and ambitious entrepreneurs - a real-life Tony Stark - and a fascinating exploration of the renewal of American invention and its new makers.

I enjoyed it more than I expected
Revisado: 09-28-21
I expected to enjoy the audio book, but I actually enjoyed the book more than I expected.
Before I listen to this book on my daily commute. I have known quite a bit about Musk and the Paypal, SpaceX, and Tesla, but not all the details. This book shed some light on those that I was not aware of, but also his two other companies that I was aware of, but didn't have much knowledge about. (Zip2, and SolarCity)
The audio book also shed a lot more light on the details of his life growing up and obviously his personal life as it relates to his kids and wives.
Elon has issues dealing with people and I've always not much cared for that, but on the flip side. Being Mr. Nice Guy doesn't always get a job done. I've always respected what he has done, but pretty much disliked him as a person due to his angry outbursts and other crazy stuff. Though I will admit. He probably could not have done what he has if he wasn't who he actually is.
People have a choice in life. If you want to do great things. Being around Elon (and surviving that experience) will likely provide that for you. If you don't want to be a part of that. You can quit.
I respected him before listening to this book. I respect him even more after the book. That doesn't mean I don't have to like how he sometimes treats people.
I can say for a fact that I grew up and have always been a Space geek and NASA lover. I'm much more angry at NASA and government bureaucracy about the space program after this book and am extremely thankful to Elon and his teams for what they have done for the space program.
This audio book (or physical book) is worth the money, the time, and the effort to read / listen to. Expect to be twice as excited (about the book and the work Elon is doing) and disappointed (in bureaucracy) when it's done.

Historia
Two of the boldest and most creative scientists of all time were Michael Faraday (1791-1867) and James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879). This is the story of how these two men - separated in age by 40 years - discovered the existence of the electromagnetic field and devised a radically new theory which overturned the strictly mechanical view of the world that had prevailed since Newton's time.

How to Analyze People

Body language tells you more of that person than what they say. Learning how to analyze people makes you understand that every little action is an unconscious reveal to their whole character, their feelings, and their motives. Unlocking this skill gives more self-awareness towards people's emotions, understand socially awkward situations, boost emotional intelligence, and develops confidence.

I seem to be in the minority here
Revisado: 04-07-21
I generally do not like to be too critical of things, but I actually had several issues with this book.
First off. The grammar used in this book is terrible. It clearly doesn't appear to have been edited by a English language expert. While the narrator (not sure what Fusion Voice is) is pretty clear most of the time. Many times words are mispronounced or the accent is so thick that it took me several seconds to really get / understand what the intent was. That said, that isn't a deal breaker. There are many great writers who narrate their own books that while sometimes difficult to understand, are wonderful to listen too.
I love listening and reading lectures and other sort of self-help books that teach you things and I've read many around psychology and behavioral science. This book came off as a regurgitation of the details of real psychology and behavioral science books rather than someone who is a true subject matter expert. (many parts weren't even true based on my learnings from other subject matter experts)
Finally, the book seems to support and even push pseudoscience. (psychic mediums, palm reading, astrology, etc) Though, he does say occasionally be careful of "some of them are false".
I gave the book two stars as he does convey some good information that I definitely learned elsewhere from known subject matter experts. That said, I do not feel this is a good representation the material. I Google'ed Jack M Goodwin and I cannot find any information about him or his credentials which reinforces my belief this is just a book someone wrote regurgitating real work and without any real subject matter expertise to ensure it's validity.
My final thoughts: Caveat Emptor.

Good information
Revisado: 03-02-21
This good has very good information and it even speaks to many of the difficulties of creating a business selling via Amazon. Though it does not really impart the true difficulties of selling via Amazon and other mass marketplaces.
Many times selling in these mass marketplaces impart huge costs to the seller which isn't normally the case when selling outside of these marketplaces. The crux of the problem is, like shopping malls. That is where all the customers are at. (location, location, location and location comes at a steep cost)
All that said, that does not detract from the information that is provided here. The information provided here can be used outside of the mass marketplaces too and to good effect. Though this book alone does not contain the information required to drive say your own website into a bustling marketplace of one retailer. For that, you must learn marketing also and a lot more effort. Short term, it's far more difficult to do, long term (if successful) can be substantially more profitable.
I do recommend this audio book. Just understand that it will not make your endeavour easy. It will just improve your chances of success had you not listened / read this book.

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

Great listen
Revisado: 05-30-18
I usually read Walter Isaacson's books, but I no longer ride the train and commute by car now. So, audio book it is.
This like all of Walter Isaacson's books I've read was fantastic. Einstein was a fascinating yet quirky man. While he seemed to have brilliance right out of the gate, you see how he changes over time with his other views that aren't so deterministic as science was to him.
This book shows the greatness of him and shows you his flaws. We all have them whether we admit to them or not.
Highly recommend the book or audio book.

Historia
Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills 3,000 years of the history of power into 48 well-explicated laws. This bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other infamous strategists. The 48 Laws of Power will fascinate any listener interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control.

Amusing book
Revisado: 04-20-18
Would you listen to 48 Laws of Power again? Why?
Just for entertainment purposes as was the first listening.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
Listening to the example stories for each of the laws presented.
What does Richard Poe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Richard Poe's reading style was excellent. I enjoyed it very much.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It definitely amused me in how it spoke with authority on "LAWS" of how to gain power. What it doesn't say is how many of the laws contradict each other. It's also amusing that there was a common theme among most of those using these laws striving for power. Their lives usually ended with a visit to the guillotine!
Any additional comments?
The stories (though sometimes repeated more than once) are entertaining and analyzing the behavioral science of how they work was very interesting. I enjoyed this audio book very much during my daily commute to and from work.

Richard H. Thaler has spent his career studying the radical notion that the central agents in the economy are humans - predictable, error-prone individuals. Misbehaving is his arresting, frequently hilarious account of the struggle to bring an academic discipline back down to earth - and change the way we think about economics, ourselves, and our world.

One of the great investment books
Revisado: 01-28-18
This book teaches you one of the greatest investment philosophies. Everyone should learn it, though as Buffett states. If you cannot detach emotionally, or aren't able to do your homework. Stick to index funds, though reading this book should be required reading for anyone who invests no matter the strategy.
