Historia
Celebrity cooking show host Marni McGuire has seen it all. She’s been married—twice—and widowed and divorced. Now in her mid-fifties, she’s single. Happily so. She just needs to convince her pregnant daughter, Bella, of this fact. And maybe convince herself, too. Especially after Marni’s efforts to humor her determined daughter result in a series of disastrous dates that somehow prompt Marni to wonder if maybe the right man for her is still out there after all.

Not my kind of story.
Revisado: 03-20-24
Explicit unnecessarily. I don’t read stories that talk about people having sex. That’s just not necessary in a well written narrative.

Historia
When her parents die in a tragic accident, Molly Bennett and her siblings pull together to fulfill their parents’ dream of turning their historic Bluebell, North Carolina, home back into an inn. Staying in town would be temporary - three years at most - then they plan to sell the inn, and Molly can get back to chasing her own dreams. Adam Bradford (a.k.a. best-selling author Nathaniel Quinn) is a reclusive novelist with a bad case of writer’s block. Desperate for inspiration as his deadline approaches, he travels to the setting of his next book, a North Carolina lake town.

I almost gave up on this story, but I started all over and was able to get totally involved with the story line and the characters c
There were some seriously coincidental elements in the story, but it worked for me.
While I acknowledge that being recorded while reading can have its challenges and I don’t wish to be unkind, I found this reader’s character voices way to high pitched. I kept thinking of little mice (squeaky) voices. To me that was so off putting I almost quit the book, but the charming story got me through it.
Very nice story over all.

Wedding fever hits Abbotsville, and several of Miss Julia's friends have plans to tie the knot. But, as usual, nothing is so simple. Christy Hargrove suddenly gives up a lifelong dream and drops out of medical school to marry; Helen Stroud and Thurlow Jones decide to change their commercial arrangement into a marital one; and, to Miss Julia's consternation, Lillian, her housekeeper and closest companion, is considering a less-than-romantic offer to wed a local businessman who turns courting into a job interview.

Note to Sandra Burr, Reader.
Revisado: 09-11-21
I’m terribly sorry for having to bring this to your attention, but your habit of over pronouncing consonant blends at the end of many words is extremely irritating. Those sounds are not intended to be pronounced separately. Doing so impedes the enjoyment of the story because it is so terribly distracting. Try as I might, I can’t ignore this affectation. My hope is that in the future, you’ll no longer feel it necessary to over pronounce your words.

Historia
It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Sweet story
Revisado: 03-27-20
I enjoyed the story. The narrator did a pleasing job on the voice of the main character. But the voices of the other characters were all too much alike and a bit over done.

I loved this story! Great to hear his wonderful voice.
His story telling was honest and vulnerable.
Being a boomer and a classically trained musician, this definitely was my cup o tea. I’m so ready for the follow up. Love ya, James.

Great story
Revisado: 01-18-20
This is a great story by Lynn Austin. It should be a movie. I enjoy the reading of Anna’s character. However the gravely voice and over exaggerated pronunciations by the reader of Hatia’s character was distracting and off-putting. That reader put emphases in strange places, sometimes sounding like a first grader learning to read. Finally, effort should be made to deliver the speaker’s tags more smoothly. It is a very long story and these distractions began to detract more and more.

Historia
Vicky, Alice, Helena, and Beatrice were historically unique sisters, born to a sovereign who ruled over a quarter of the earth's people and who gave her name to an era: Queen Victoria. Two of these princesses would themselves produce children of immense consequence. All five would curiously come to share many of the social restrictions and familial machinations borne by 19th-century women of less-exulted class.
