I like the narration but that’s about it. The more extreme and over the top plot got the less I was interested. Gave up about 1 1/2 hours before the end.

Historia
It’s 1989 and journalist Allie Burns is growing up. Older and maybe wiser than the hustling young hack we met in 1979, she’s running the northern news operation of the Sunday Globe, chafing at losing her role in investigative journalism and at the descent into the gutter of the UK tabloid media. But there’s plenty to keep her occupied. The year begins with the memorial service for the victims of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, but Allie has barely filed her copy when she stumbles over a story about HIV/AIDS that will shock her into a major change of direction.

Disappointing End
Revisado: 08-04-24
The author did a lot of research and made sure the reader knew it. I liked 1979 so gave this a chance and finished it however at the end the main character makes a choice that wasn’t hers to make and decides letting someone get away with murder is ok if the victim is unlikeable. If not for the end I would have given 3 stars. I The narration is excellent

I was ready to give up on this book about a third of the way through but kept listening for the twist ending. There was no surprise twist just a truly terrible main character. Linda is so self centered and spoiled.

Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

Not for me

I disliked the main character, she seems so drippy. The narration didn’t help. The narrator’s voice for Hannah is so quivery. The killer was a disappointment too.

Historia
Becky still adores the traditions of Christmas: Her parents host, carols play on repeat, her mother pretends she made the Christmas pudding, and the neighbors come ’round for sherry in their terrible holiday sweaters. Things are looking cheerier than ever, until Becky’s parents announce they’re moving to ultra-trendy Shoreditch - unable to resist the draw of craft beer and smashed avocados - and ask Becky if she’ll host this year. What could possibly go wrong?

Historia
When a K9 search-and-rescue team discovers a woman's body tangled up with debris in the river, Scotland Yard superintendent Duncan Kincaid finds himself heading an investigation fraught with complications. The victim, Rebecca Meredith, was a talented but difficult woman with many admirers - and just as many enemies. An Olympic contender on the verge of a controversial comeback, she was also a high-ranking detective with the Met - a fact that raises a host of political and ethical issues in an already sensitive case.
