Great story, narration lacking

I love the books themselves, but the first 2 were a bit rough to listen to. The narration was either like listening to a news story or just had very little intonation. The male readers especially seemed to just be reading, versus narrating. The 3rd book was definitely the best performance of the three. As much as I disliked the readings of the books, the story lines were done really well and it kept me involved. Still recommend these, at least for book or Kindle reading. Moving on to Vampire season with books 4-6 (I wish there was a trilogy set!)

Good storyline, but missing something

I like this book, really...but there was something I didn't love. I can't decide if it's just the performance or the wiring. I think the storyline is great, it's more that some of the word choices (that were used often) felt forced to fit the chipper Gen-Z'r or a broody old warlock roles.

I do feel like it's worth the read, just not my favorite. I read this without reading the first book. It was fine as a stand-alone and not needed to start with #1.

It's your cousin Erica...🎵FROM BOSTON🎵

Lachlan & Erica's story is really good, but the narrator had me cringing more than I expected. Her accent, which I assume is her regular speaking voice grated on me. She had these random moments, especially introducing the chapter number, where she sounded like McNulty...from Boston. (if you know, you know).

Aidan's story was good too, but I don't know if it was the narrator or the way Callie was written, but the way she talked sometimes was irritating. I can't even really figure out why. I know she's supposed to be naive, but it seemed more the way it was read. Still worth the listen though. I mean, really they all are because we love the MacTaggarts.

I was waiting for Rory & Emery's story the most of the 3, I think. I came in to the series at book 6 (Shane East is the best) and had to backtrack, so I knew of the characters already but not their stories. I looove Emery. Her personality was relatable and had me laughing. The narrators ate the same, but they voiced the characters better than book 2 IMO.

Overall, worth the credit for sure. I definitely am glad they offered the 3 in one set so it was lots of listening hours.

This one was a little slow for me. The story didnt grab be as much as others. It seemed like the timeline was weird with the given reading order. I'm going to ruffle lots of feathers in sure, but I really didn't like Jason Clarke in this narration. He doesn't give enough voice variety between characters, or show much emotion in his reading. I like him a lot more in duet narration!

Anyway, this one was neither great, nor terrible. It just was...

I have to say, as much as I love this story and was super excited waiting for it to come out, I'm sad the series is over. Both narrators were great as always! I like the intro of Sutton as the best friend, and am hoping the Doctor series starts with Jacob & Sutton. Just a hunch, but with Jacob crossing over from Private Player into the Mr. series working with Hartford (at least that's what I think) it definitely makes sense. And if it is, I'm here for it! Happy to round out the Duke of Edinburgh boys' stories. Also, for those looking for the steam factor, Tristan brought it!

I like the story, and for the most part the narration. I had a hard time with Kate though. I couldn't tell if it was how she was written or just the narration choices. She seemed like a cold B most of the time. I did like the narrators for their specific parts. I thought Zachary did a pretty good Scottish accent, but didn't love his "Kate" voice. Stella was great overall. And Shane can never go wrong. I'm glad Callum got his story. I was hoping after hearing Jack's story that Callum would have his own, so I was happy to find this in the crossovers. Worth the read if you like the Brit and/or Scot series.

This is a tough one for me. It definitely wasn't my favorite narration in this series. The narrators both pronounced a lot of things incorrectly, repeatedly, and the accents weren't the best. Aaron was good as Luke, and some of the Scots, but his female characters, especially Kirsty was irritating. Marian was good as Kirsty, but her Scots men all sounded like old men. I did really like the story though, so I was able to make it through. Actually doing the whole series again, so its my second time listening. Edited review to add a few things I missed last time.

The chapter at the end for Magnus' story gave me hope for the next book though.

I loved this story. I laughed out loud several times. it would be absolutely perfect if it was done in duet narration. Shane East is swoon worthy as always.

So, Shane East makes a grocery list sound sexy and that makes this book what it is. Erin Mallon did fine with the quotes for some reason, but the monologues drove me nuts. The breathy thing or whatever she does at the end of sentences is obnoxious! When she doesn't do that, it was well done.

I'm only on chapter 8 & going to stick it out, but I agree with the general consensus that Shane was amazing as usual but Imogen was wayyyy too Mrs. Doubtfire-ish with Darcy and the monolog. also, I don't remember Darcy being so shy or unsure of herself. The way she is read totally changed her character for me. I do think Imogen did well with male voices and older women. She seemed to lose a lot of the weird influx of tones when performing those characters. I think I'd love this (so far) if it was it was re-released with a different female narrator. I'm not there yet, but I can't imagine the sex scenes being that hot when in Darcy Doubtfire's POV.
