Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

If you like the Hallmark Channel and TV soap operas then this is the book for you. Scott Brick, as always, did a fantastic performance in the narration.

A great listen! Caught my attention from the first paragraph. Listened just about non stop for the entire book. Fine characters. Great plot. So interesting to learn about IMAS and the development of communication with another species. Thanks Mr. Grumley. Can't wait for your next book!!"

Definitely NOT a mystery
Revisado: 09-07-16
Narrator is excellent. An "easy" listen. Plot is quite shallow but this is good as one can listen "casually" while multi-tasking. Plot quite predictable also. I was expecting more of a mystery and quickly learned this is more like a Hallmark channel drama but that is OK. I listened to the entire book. It is an uplifting story. Not sorry I used a credit for this book.

Absolutely Totally Great
Revisado: 04-16-16
I am a very organized person but I learned so much from Andrew Mellen's book!! Having a blast "unstuffing" my home!! Great to know that the old hat on the top of the closet is just an old hat - it is not your grandfather!! Yes, the mantras of the book are "Like with Like" and "everything has a home with its brothers and sisters" - Even if you are totally organized and really OCD - you will love, love, love this book.

Someone has tried to kill the French president. How many snipers can shoot from three-quarters of a mile with total confidence? John Kott—a U.S. Army marksman gone bad—is one of them. After fifteen years in prison, he’s out . . . and there’s a G8 summit coming up, packed with enough world leaders to tempt any assassin.

Definitely something wrong with Reacher
Revisado: 09-07-14
Couldn't believe how disappointed I was with this Reacher episode. Virtually no action. Very thin, almost non existent plot. Reader was very slow and this book bored me out of my skull. I don't like saying negative comments but it is difficult to come up with anything positive. The dialogue wasn't realistic and the book had three speeds: slow, slower, and stop. Very sorry I wasted a credit on this book.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Too long. Readers too slow.
Revisado: 08-24-13
I was impressed by the rave reviews of other reviewers and gambled a credit. I did listen (albeit painfully) clear to the end. Yes, this story is demented. First half is somewhat boring, 2nd half has a little more action. Narration is too slow for my taste. Others may truly enjoy this book but the genre isn't one of my favorites.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Thought provoking foreign detective story
Revisado: 08-16-12
I used a credit for this book for reason of the other reviews written about it. It does have an excellent plot which moves well, although definitely not "fast." This book is not a "cliff hanger" nor a "page turner" but does an excellent job of providing the listener of a birds' eye view of police establishments in other countries. There seem to be more similarities than differences between our American culture and that of Sweden and Lithuania. The story opens with good action and the author proceeds well through the novel to the action which happens at the end. Well thought out plot that moves well. My personal preference is for more "action" and more "cliff hanger" events; however, I rated the story relatively highly for the reason the author has written a quality novel and the reader does an excellent job in the narration. On a personal note, I had some difficulty keeping the characters straight for reason of their strange sounding names; however, the listener does become acclimated to the foreign names. All in all there is good value for a book credit.

A "grownup" scary story for the campfire
Revisado: 08-03-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Light listening. Doesn't require focused attention. Constant action. Shallow plot. Would remain neutral re. recommending.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The connection of the murderer to the town
What three words best describe Scott Brick’s voice?
Disappointing this time.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No
Any additional comments?
Usually Scott Brick can make a recipe interesting but not with this book. His interpretation of the characters didn't seem to match the personalities described by the author. Good thing Scott Brick is my absolute favorite reader so it is possible to overlook his performance with this book. This book seems to be an "adult scary story" that would be told around a campfire on a camping trip.
