Sanderson goes full woke.
Revisado: 02-04-25
I have 9 hours left of this book. It's extremely intense. I thought it was crazy before but it's just getting more and more. At the same time, Sanderson has destroyed two characters I really liked by making them extremely gay, and not just gay but interspecies gay. To justify it Sanderson has changed the lore so that they don't have to be in late form to be romantically inclined anymore, and he has introduced several "heterosexual" interspecies couples in this book, so it's suddenly "totally cool and normal and stuff" for aliens that grow horns and carapace and are only humanoid in form and intelligence but in no other way to be in a cross-species sexual relationship with humans. So of course it's also "totally cool and normal and stuff" for there to also be gay couples that are cross species. I didn't care when there were gay human couples. I don't want to read about their romance, I don't read Sanderson for romance. But this is just gross.
The worst part is one of the characters is ASD and representative of that community in a really cool way, and now he's literally just another tool for the woke agenda, I feel very, very betrayed by this. ASD members are not represented in Sanderson's works hardly at all, and now the most prominent representative has been hijacked by the woke agenda.
I'm trying hard to focus on the rest of the story. I want to be done with this book. It may be one of the last books I read of his.

Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

one of the most important books of our day
Revisado: 05-09-24
within a chapter or two of starting this book I know I was in for a wild ride that was going to answer many of the questions I had about why gen Z was so screwed up. I'm a millennial and have suffered a lot of the same issues that gen Z has, but not to the same degree that they have. I am raising children and I want to avoid the same issues that they have. this book is part of a four book set that I have been recommending to my friends and which I'm trying to follow myself. included with this book are strong father strong daughters, strong mother strong son, and raising lions. I recommend all of these books to anyone looking to find solutions to today's problems as parents, teachers, general leaders of youth; or as youth trying to find your way in the world.

She tells with bravery and dignity for the first time the story of how she and her mother were betrayed and sold into sexual slavery in China and forced to suffer terrible psychological and physical hardship before they finally made their way to Seoul, South Korea - and to freedom.

I can't believe how little I knew about North Korea's incredibly awful state. Communism really is the greatest form of slavery the world has ever known.

Historia
When the great red star Calamity appeared in the sky, some believed the end had come. They were right. Calamity created the Epics: humans with incredible powers they didn't deserve. They could have saved mankind. They could have lifted us into harmony and prosperity. Instead they burned. They slaughtered. They conquered. And then they ruled. Jax has learned all of this the hard way. Orphaned at an early age, he's spent most of his childhood training to be a Reckoner - determined to find the Epics' weaknesses, unlock their secrets, and protect those of us who are still left.

I love it, but hate it too. There better be a Lux2
Revisado: 02-12-23
It was way, way darker than typical Sanderson, even for Reckoners. I did not enjoy that. If there's no sequel I'm going to be pissed, what they did at the end is completely atrocious. I like happy endings. This book does not have a happy ending and that's stupid if it's a standalone, no sequel book.

Good book, the sound effects are awful
Revisado: 11-24-22
I really enjoyed this book for the most part. A lot of repetitive wording, got really bored of that, actually quite annoyed at first. But the worst of all was the awful music and sound effects that they played multiple times every chapter. It didn't help the book, at faster speeds all it did was make a garbally static type sound in the background that made it hard to understand what the narrator was actually trying to tell me.
