I greatly enjoyed Fire Season, both reading it and listening to it. KD Casey is always a rich pleasure, with romances that feel a bit more textured and lived-in. I liked both leads, liked them together, I related to the themes of addiction and sobriety and disappointment and getting up after a stumble and complicated but awesome friendships with exes and the stress and disorientation of living through fire disasters. I look forward to listening to all future Casey releases.

That said, while the narrator is generally strong and enjoyable, I am permanently scarred by the mispronunciation throughout of Marin (location). That was a mean thing to do to me.

I’d already read and greatly enjoyed Desire Lines and was eager to try the audio version, which is very well done. In a story rich with Welsh names and words, hearing them smoothly and confidently delivered (much more so than my internal voice could do) added to the experience.

A difficult, necessary look at sexual violence against Black women in recent U.S. history and as part of white supremacy, with a focus on the bravery, perseverance, and accomplishments of Black women activists and survivors, as well as their critical roles in the civil rights struggle. Robin Miles does an excellent job of narration.
