I literally screamed at my car dashboard when the author recommended a hypothetical product review channel approach companies to be reviewed about sponsorship opportunities. That is NOT how you build a reputation as a reliable content creator or reviewer. It is, however, how you create massive conflicts of interest with both your advertisers and your audience.

With more than 20 years experience myself in public relations and marketing, including digital marketing, I downloaded this book to see what had evolved since I last had to do client work after stepping out of the game. I found this work to be full of conflicting and, as mentioned above, outright bad advice. This book's most frequent advice appears to focus on the importance of a good profile photo. I assume it's highly important because it gets a mention at least twice in each chapter, or that may just be padding to hit a specific word count. As a rule I immediately dismiss any book on this subject when it includes the phrase "let the money roll in." This book includes that phrase.

There is no doubt that better resources exist for those who want to seriously pursue this. You need to find one of those instead.

Rick Rubin's meditative approach to the act of creating is not just some new age dialogue about the value of art. It provides very real and very practical advice on how to access that part of our brain that desires to make something.

The McElroy family provides an entertaining and informative walk through the process of podcasting. The best part is that I found the advice to be helpful beyond podcasting and useful when considering the act of creativity in general. Make something!
