Historia
Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with my best friend’s little sister before our lives went in different directions. Now, I’m the grumpy to Juliet’s sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover. And find the house has only one bed. Located under a mirrored ceiling.

So empty. Basically just a porno, no legit storyline
Revisado: 05-07-24
Like: the narrators were animated and easy to listen to
Dislike: the story was just the book version of a porno; no depth or decent storyline.

Historia
Lady Emily, husband Colin Hargreaves, and their three sons eagerly embark on a family vacation at Cairnfarn Castle, the Scottish estate of their dear friend Jeremy, Duke of Bainbridge. But a high-spirited celebration at the beginning of their stay comes to a grisly end when the duke’s gamekeeper is found murdered on the banks of the loch. Handsome Angus Sinclair had a host of enemies: the fiancée he abandoned in Edinburgh, the young woman who had fallen hopelessly in love with him, and the rough farmer who saw him as a rival for her affections.

Interesting but not my favorite
Revisado: 01-31-24
I typically devour Lady Emily mysteries, but this one took longer to get in to. Perseverance matters though. I pushed through and by halfway, I was captivated by the storyline. Happy for the happy-ish endings.

Dumb storyline, overly dramatic narration
Revisado: 12-11-23
I couldn’t finish it.
The female character was ridiculously dramatic. The narrator wasn’t bad though.
The male character was awful. He was dramatic and didn’t act like a biological male. The narrator was unnecessarily gruff.
The storyline theme fixated on the dumbest of the dumb stuff.
I’m sorry to the author, but oof.

Excellent story!

Very engaging storyline. Really enjoyed this perspective on Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty. You can also imagine that Moriarty was created by Holmes due to Holmes’ arrogance and selfishness.

Historia
Recently engaged and deeply ensconced in her third year of surgical residency in Chicago, Emily Hartford gets a shock when she is called home to Freeport, Michigan, the small town she fled a decade ago after the death of her mother. Her estranged father, the local medical examiner, has had a massive heart attack. At the hospital, she finds her father in near total denial of the seriousness of his condition. He insists that the best thing Emily can do to help him is to take on the autopsy of a senator's teen daughter whose sudden, unexplained death has just rocked the sleepy town.

Unexciting mystery
Revisado: 06-13-22
The story was okay. Just okay.
Very predictable storyline. The hint of mystery was far stronger than the mystery itself.
The doctor repeatedly has her “medical instincts kick in” but her medical training and instincts are slow and sloppy. The main character is stubborn and argumentative, and yet she gives no good reasons for being grumpy.
Her poor fiancé is kicked to the curb for being rich and nice.
The narrator read every voice in the same breathy shy voice as the doctor. The doctor sounds unsure of herself in that voice which makes her very unlikeable, and I didn’t realize until a “hateful teen” was made to sound a shy, scared teen that I realized that the narrator likely completely misrepresented all of the characters.
I powered through because I wanted an answer, but I kicked myself the whole time for the wasted effort.

Loved the book. Wonderful distraction while mourning a death in the family. But I loved Chapter 24 and the reminder that those who disagree with us philosophically are still human and should always be treated with compassion and empathy. Chapter 24 quotes from Prater are the best part of the book.

Excellent and informative review on food and its impacts on various functions. It was a great reminder that we truly become what we consume. I loved the narrator. Knowing that the author was Indian made the Indian accent of the narrator that much more authentic.

Historia
We should have the capacity to fight with manipulation. We should always be ready, as manipulation and coercion are happening around us almost every time. The tactics under dark psychology are used by different kinds of people around us to get from us whatever they want. It is not only a science but also an art inherent in our thoughts, interactions, and actions. People might use manipulation, motivation, coercion, and persuasion to get whatever they want. We may not be under the direct influence of the dark triad, but may have to face the dark psychology tactics on a daily basis.

Poor grammar is common throughout the text with the narrator's microphone frequently cutting out and mispronouncing simple words. The narrator also does not seem to understand proper inflection in sentences. Couldn't make it through the book.

I'm not an alcoholic, have never struggled with alcohol dependence, and have never gotten into trouble because of alcohol. But I have family and friends who do and have, and I want to understand better for them. I appreciated the author's ability to delve into the internal struggles of an alcoholic. Mostly, I appreciate his ability to shed excuses and take it upon himself to change his own life. Inspiring.
