Ruined a good thing
Revisado: 03-20-25
This series grew on me as the characters developed. I enjoyed the dynamic between them all. Now they are bickering and competing with each other which started with DI Freya. It’s so inappropriate and unrealistic. It bothered me in the last book and Freya’s behavior was ridiculous and now she’s passed it on to her team.

I’ve listened to it twice as well as all the other books, so that says it all. Great characters, love their interaction. Well developed plot line with twists and turns. I enjoy the police procedural aspects…so interesting. And Angus does it again!! Excellent performance. I could listen to him all day (and I have 😄)

This is the second part of book 18. Both books are short so I am not sure why they weren’t written as one…probably to sell more books. My review of the previous book was frustrated by the ending and hoped that this book would continue the story and it did. Thankfully I had immediate gratification.

Not my fave
Revisado: 01-13-25
Too many different characters and pieces that did wind up tying together but not in a satisfying way. It appears that the next book will wrap up the mystery however it leaves this book wanting. They should have been one book. Harry was barely in this and there was not much in police procedural or actual investigating. More about them reacting to situations. Spoiler alert: for example how did they not know the dead author was a Triplett? I am usually a huge Angus King fan however some of his character voices in this book were horrible. Like nails on the chalkboard. I think part of the problem was the dialogue between these characters and the fact that Angus has to create so many voices as this book has many characters. So I commend him on trying.

I have read all but one of the DCI Logan books and I love them all. Spoiler alert: This one is good however I am not a fan of justice for a bad guy. I am not against justice - I just prefer my books to be more about the good guy. Still a great book!! Going back and re-listening to books it’s interesting to hear how some of the voices of the characters have developed along the way. In this book Tyler doesn’t sound the same as he does in the later books. Sounds more like Sinead. Love Angus!!

unsatisfactory and not as interesting as previous stories.
Revisado: 12-23-24
I don’t find any satisfaction in the solving of a cold case that involves the murder of a bad guy that’s better dead than alive especially when the killer is a victim of that person. As the new guy stated, I’m sure there are many more deserving cold cases with victims that are truly missed. I don’t see the super choosing this case among all the others. Might not be a popular opinion however I think police resources should be focused on finding killers of good or vulnerable people not wife beating, drug dealers.

I was going to give up on the series until the cliff hanger
Revisado: 12-12-24
Too many characters. Too many different perspectives and things going on. But it does come together at the end. Not much in the way of police procedural. I don’t think they even look at cctv or get into actual detective work until the last two hours. And still the bad guys last name is incorrect. If you read the first book you will know. It irritates me to no end. I mean, seriously, the author creates these characters so you would think he would remember. If not, look back. Clearly the editor is not up to par. Love angus king however some of the voices of the character are grating. And he misses some affectations. The banter between the younger detective and superior is tiresome as well. Maybe if read with a more humorous tone it would be better but overall I’m tired of it.

Now he's been temporarily assigned to an existing Major Investigation team, working alongside his old friend, Detective Inspector Frank Miller, after Miller's DCI dies suddenly. Convoluted story but still entertaining
Revisado: 12-10-24
I have listened to many of the books in this series mostly because I get attached to characters and they are an easy listen except for when so many characters are introduced as was the case in this book. And something the author tend to do. It was a lot to keep track of. I like the longer books however it feels like in this one there was a lot of activity before they really got to the cold case and then it was rushed from there and didn’t really make a lot of sense. Regardless it kept me guessing until almost the end. Book 1 Spoiler alert! There was a mistake in the last name of the detective from the first book who had murdered his friend’s daughter. I know there were a lot of books in between but just look back and check.

I’ve listened to the series and I am a fan!! This one was worth the listen but not my fave. A little simple and predictable. A couple threads left…hope they will be pulled in the next book or two which appear to be written, just not yet available on audible. Hope they hurry it up. Love Tobias narration.
