Historia
Vietnam became the Western world’s most divisive modern conflict, precipitating a battlefield humiliation for France in 1954, then a vastly greater one for the US in 1975. Max Hastings has spent the past three years interviewing scores of participants on both sides, as well as researching a multitude of American and Vietnamese documents and memoirs, to create an epic narrative of an epic struggle. Here are the vivid realities of strife amid jungle and paddies that killed two million people.

Good book, poor performance.
Revisado: 02-04-19
It was hard to listen to because of the snide and vindictive tone of the performer which continued through the book. Also, you would think that for a book this long, the performer would have learned the proper pronunciation of words such as 'Huế', 'Tan Son Nhut', and 'Nguen' which are mispronounced throughout the book. The author is equally critical of both sides during the war. As a Vietnam veteran, I was again dismayed at the actions of senior leadership by both the Americans and South Vietnamese. I recommend the book, but buy the hard copy if you can to avoid having to listen to the performer.

Historia
One of the most acclaimed books of our time - the definitive Vietnam War exposé and the winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. When he came to Vietnam in 1962, Lieutenant Colonel John Paul Vann was the one clear-sighted participant in an enterprise riddled with arrogance and self-deception, a charismatic soldier who put his life and career on the line in an attempt to convince his superiors that the war should be fought another way. By the time he died in 1972, Vann had embraced the follies he once decried. He died believing that the war had been won.

It's a shame the producers of this reading didn't care enough to get the pronunciation of "Biên Hòa" correct.

Historia
In this comprehensive history, Stanley Karnow demystifies the tragic ordeal of America's war in Vietnam. The book's central theme is that America's leaders, prompted as much by domestic politics as by global ambitions, carried the United States into Southeast Asia with little regard for the realities of the region. Karnow elucidates the decision-making process in Washington and Asia and recounts the political and military events that occurred after the Americans arrived in Vietnam.

It would have been nice if the reader had been instructed on how to pronounce Biên Hòa. This stuck out in the fist couple of paragraphs. It's closer to "Byen Wa". Not "Byen HO".

Historia
From the earliest oral traditions to ink on parchment and ultimately the printing press, this is the story behind the best-selling book of all time. Original texts were captured and passed down from generation to generation by elders and leaders, many inked by hand in extreme conditions. Christians and Jews canonized the Christian, Catholic, and Hebrew Bibles over a period of thousands of years. Devoted people dedicated their lives throughout time to put this unique book into the hands of people worldwide.

Couple of errors.

In a couple of places, BCE dates were give that should have been CE. In Chapter one it states that a lot of Christian writings were destroyed 150 BCE. Kind of hard to do. Also, it described Electors in Germany as the people who elected the Pope. The Conclave of Cardinals elects the Pope. The Electors in Germany elected the Holy Roman Emperor.
