UIgh...I appreciate character developement as much as the next person, but this was too much for my taste. "Jael is somehow the connection to everything" - Eadmund is drunk. "There is darkness coming" - Eadmund is drunk, again. "There must be a connection to this ancient prophecy" - and again, Eadmund is drunk. Seriously, the meat of the etire book does not start until about the last 2 hours of it...

I truly enjoyed this book. A nice, light read about supportive and loving friendships (even love for the self-centered friends), and sweet, romantic love. A perfect and flawed love story. Everything was grreat about this book, the only place I got stuck was how much the author felt like she was endorsing crappy eating habits. On a planet with a population of sky rocketing Diabetes, I give the main character 1 year before she is a Type 2 Diabetic. Ugh....

I don't understand how anyone liked this book! I swear the author wrote more about Katie's visit with her parents and what they ate (even when her mom went to the kitchen to get a Diet Dr. Pepper), rather than any kind of fulfilling storyline. This books dragged and dragged with details that I can only assume were put in so that she could make it a 3 part series. And if I had to hear Katie complain one more time about how "normal and boring" she is, I was going to scream!! This book will only add to your negative internal dialog. Ugh!!!!!

I read the reviews on this book before purchasing, and I was really excited about it. Turns out, that I can only agree with two reviews. In my opinion, this book read like a diary. It was as if I was listening to someone ("Adelaide") tell me about their day. Their day in...day out experiences. The story is slow, uneventful and anticlimactic. The end got a little bit better, and then I was looking forward to the epilogue so that I could get a little closure, but spoiler alert, there isn't an epilogue. Although I am curious about Mira and her late nights out, as well as Tamsin and her desperate need for money, I will not be buying anymore of these books.

I cannot say enough positives about this book. The story was perfectly paced, characters developed, the story line kept me sitting in the car and not wanting to get out, and the narrator (with the accents and pronunciations) was the best I have ever heard! Only negative (and only one) was that there were more characters than the narrator had voices for, BUT still loved it!

What I loved

What I loved was how creatively written this story was. I loved the quirky and dysfunctional relationships, as well as the usage of words I have never heard before. I did, however, think a few chapters felt like they were stuck on repeat, with nothing happening and no expansion of the storyline. I am also now stuck with a question...(*slight spoiler alert) why the drug usage by Reed and Basil, and what is their secret? This part felt like it came out of nowhere and derailed what could have been a better storyline (more emphasis) with a Singapore location.

Entertaining beginning, but slow ending.

I enjoyed the introduction of the main characters (Rayne and Ghost), and the way they meet, as well as their short tour of England. I also enjoyed the exciting (and disturbing) parts of what makes their paths cross again. What I didn't like, was the last quarter of the book and how slow it was. It is like the author ran out of story line, so what is left is repetitive dialog, then one tiny experience (hiccup) at the end. I was close to turning it off, but I finished with the hopes that it would get better - even a fun lead-in to another story line, anything...

This one was seriously painful to listen to. I couldn't even finish it. The narrator is terrible - there is barely any inflection in her voice (in ALL of the characters), and it is a struggle to get a sense of the different personalities, due to the fact that they all sound the same. Then there is the story line and dialog...both equally painful. Like the heading says, I suggest that you don't waste your time on this one,

Frustratingly Slow...

At first, I enjoyed the stubborn and self-sufficient personality of Catherine, as well as the insight into her relationships with the people around her. I did not enjoy the narrators voice (I think it is too deep for a 24 year old), and when it came to the male roles, the narrator completely falls flat with what is supposed to be a male voice. Then we get to the part where she is (spoiler alert) holed up in her home for 5 days...it literally made me feel like I too had been stuck with her for 5 whole days. The story was so detailed and slow, and the conversations were so mundane and tedious, that I almost stopped listening. All in all, I give this book a "Meh."

Daniel Mason uses his words like a painter uses his paint brush. He is beautifully descriptive, making you feel like you can smell, hear and see what he is describing. He truly has a gift! Where he falls short, is in his plot. This story was long and drawn out, with a very disappointing climax. He leaves you with unanswered questions, and unresolved feelings...
