Historia
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

Great story, with almost no preachy politics this time around
Revisado: 11-14-24
Love the writing and the storyline. Thankfully significantly less contemporary political commentary in this installment.

Historia
For as long as she can remember, Doric has felt alone. Abandoned by her human parents, she wandered for years before being taken in by a community of Neverwinter Wood elves. But her horns and tail proclaim a tiefling heritage, and even among the kindest of elves, her fledgling druidic abilities mark her as different from the rangers around her. And as humans begin to encroach farther and farther into the once pristine woods, Doric knows she needs to master her druidic capabilities if she is to be any help to her adopted family.

'Pronoun' use was too distracting
Revisado: 08-09-24
I like a good fantasy book to escape modern life and enjoy an epic adventure.
The use of 'preferred pronouns' by characters in this book so distracted me from the performance and story line that I couldn't finish it and ended up returning it. I just kept getting dragged back into the culture wars and political chaos of modern life every time it came up..
Give me an old fashied D&D or fantasy book built on classic myths any day, but not this nonsense.

DJ is a fixer. If he sees a problem, he makes it go away by the most expedient way possible. As an elite member of a secret team of FBI whose sole purpose is to combat global terrorism and organized crime, this usually involves putting his finger to the trigger. When he impulsively acts to remedy one problem and save a group of hostages from a criminal kingpin, it sets off a domino-like chain of events that involve terrorists, assassins, and traitors.

Historia
There’s chaos in Hollywood at the end of the New Year’s Eve countdown. Working her graveyard shift, LAPD detective Renée Ballard waits out the traditional rain of lead as hundreds of revelers shoot their guns into the air. Only minutes after midnight, Ballard is called to a scene where a hardworking auto shop owner has been fatally hit by a bullet in the middle of a crowded street party.

let the talent record together
Revisado: 11-21-21
Great story and great talent but conversations sound stilted in parts...likely from recording separately and splicing together. Human interaction has a rhythm that's hard to fake.

Common fan but almost quit listening
Revisado: 10-11-20
tell myself as a common fans but the reference to Ashata Shakur during his discussion of his experimental phase about had me canceling and returning the book. I kept listening to see if he would repudiate as earlier support of this terrorist but was disappointed. that's when I remembered I didn't pay for the book it was a free offering which made me someone happier. come on common Shakur is not in keeping with what you profess is your current worldview in this piece.

The Posleen are coming and the models all say the same thing: Without the Panama Canal, the US is doomed to starvation and defeat. Despite being overstretched preparing to defend the US, the military sends everything it has left: A handful of advanced Armored Combat Suits, rejuvenated veterans from the many decades that Panama was a virtual colony and three antiquated warships. Other than that, the Panamanians are on their own.

Classic Ringo...being Ringo
Revisado: 05-03-12
Classic Ringo...being Ringo...with some help from the other guy I'm sure. As a former paratrooper I love almost anything Ringo writes because it reminds me of the conversations an attitudes I shared during my late teens/early 20's at Fort Bragg (when I wasn't deployed of course). Even though this was co-written it comes across as classic Ringo and the authors obvious knowledge and love of the canal zone added a neat travelog quality. Not as tightly written as some of the other stories in this series but I love a story where the right kind of soldier gets to lead the good fight! The non-human characters were interesting as well...especially with the way that the authors breathed a little...er humanity...into them.

I couldn't get past the Bees
Revisado: 05-03-12
I really wanted to like this book...what a great title after all...but I just couldn't get past the characters referring to the zombies as bees. Beyond that the survivors seemed to spend more time fighting each other than they did fighting the undead. I generally like the genre, but if there was anything positive worth mentioning I must have daydreamed through it...it just didn't capture my attention.

Historia
The midwestern town of Middletown is the "first strike" of a new super bomb. However, instead of destroying the town, the attack rips a hole in the space-time continuum, sending the town and it's inhabitants to a distant Earth, cold and foreboding. The story of their struggle, survival and ultimate success in rekindling the planet and dealing with the people and aliens of the future, is the stuff of great science fiction. As you listen, see if you agree with the many who think this story was the origin of the Star Wars characters Chewbacca and Leia.

Good municipal survival story. Picture the love child of Alas Babylon, the Jericho TV show and the Tom Hanks movie Cast Away...how's that for mixing my entertainment metaphors?
