Historia
Frederick is a demon. Born in Maryland in the early 1980's, he hasn't a clue where he came from or why, but feels an irresistible desire to occupy a human body. Once inside, he finds the previous occupants' consciousness and memories forever erased, an inevitable side effect that gives Frederick pause when switching bodies, but not so much as to truly halt his ongoing enjoyment of human lives. In various bodies, he travels the world for decades - aimless - sampling cultures and experiencing life from the points of view of males, females, young, old, rich, poor.

Slow start
Revisado: 06-09-15
I bought this book after reading the second book in the series. I wish I had read them in order. Maybe I would have better understood what was happening. I didn't like the book at first because the demon was not likable. When the story finally gets going, though, it's pretty compelling, and you must pay attention to what is happening. I bought this book as an Audible book, and really enjoyed the narrator. He seemed to voice the character perfectly.

Historia
For years Leo Waterman eked out a meager living as a PI in Seattle. He survived run-ins with murderers, drug dealers, and jealous wives, but when Rebecca, the love of his life, dumped him to marry someone else…that was a different story. After Leo’s trust fund finally kicks in, he takes his broken heart and slips gratefully into retirement — until the day he learns that Rebecca has vanished and no one, not even her overbearing mother, can locate her. Together with his motley crew of homeless drunks and reprobates, Leo sets out to find Rebecca, following her twisted trail from the rain-swept streets of Seattle to the murky depths of the great North Woods. The stink of it all emanates from none other than Rebecca’s new husband, whose lies cast Leo into the path of a ruthless gang that will stop at nothing — not even murder — to protect what’s theirs.

Excruciating
Revisado: 05-11-15
As a dog lover, I can honestly share this story was very hard to get through. The search is excruciating, and the author portrays her feelings very well. I truly don't know how she went on with her search. It's short enough to read at one sitting, and I kept reading until the end!

Far fetched but exciting
Revisado: 05-08-15
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook on headphones. The sound was almost too low to listen without headphones, even turned up all the way. The narrator has a whispery voice that in many spots is hard to hear. However, he read it very well.
The story, as I mentioned, was far fetched, and required a suspension of belief akin to science fiction. The plot has many twists and turns that very conveniently rescue the protagonists just in time. But, all in all, very enjoyable.

A very fun read
Revisado: 05-06-15
This is just the kind of mystery I like - a mostly serious tale with spots of humor throughout. Not only that, but it kept me guessing, then when I did figure it out, I had to keep reading to be sure I was right!
An alcoholic protagonist who is in recovery gave some welcome insight into that world, detailing her encouraging support system, secrecy issues, and struggles with relapse.
I bought both the book and narration, and the tone of the narrator was spot on. I ended up not reading, but listening to the whole thing. I will definitely be listening to or reading more by this author. (My five-star ratings are reserved for books I would read again, and those are very rare.)

Historia
The funeral of Edward’s mother brings him home for the first time in years. Though his return rekindles his affection for his childhood home, it also triggers a resurgence of the family tensions that caused him to leave in the first place. As Edward becomes tangled in his family’s web of corrosive secrets, his homecoming tips a precariously balanced dynamic into sudden chaos. The Italian Girl is a compelling story of a man’s reunion with his estranged family, and of the tragedy that shocks them all into confronting their past.

This to me was representational of many sixties books. I bought both the book and narration, but ended up only listening, because the narration was excellent. It is the artfully written story of a most disfunctional family, jarred into self-awakening by a momentous event.

Pretty good
Revisado: 05-03-15
I was indifferent to this book. I don't think I liked the characters. There was just something about the book that put me off. The narrator did a great job, but his voice sounded like the voice of a certain news person on television. From that point on, the face of the newsman was pasted onto the character, and it spoiled all the love scenes for me. Try as I might, I couldn't shake the image! I'm not sure if this was what spoiled the book for me, but if I had read it instead, I may have liked it better.

I purchased this audiobook and listened to it over a weekend. It's a compelling story of a girl who vanishes from a small town in Maine, a mystery with a touch of the supernatural. I enjoyed the locale and the warm characters.
