Historia
The vengeful King Schahriar agrees to stave off the execution of Queen Scheherazade until she finishes a particularly compelling story. Her plan? Bleed one tale into another. Through fanciful histories, romances, tragedies, comedies, poems, riddles, and songs, Scheherazade prolongs her life by holding the king’s rapt attention. With origins in Persian and Eastern Indian folklore, the stories of The Arabian Nights have been reworked, reshaped, revised, collected, and supplemented throughout the centuries by various authors and scholars.

I’m not into witchcraft and stories of devils!
Revisado: 11-24-21
True to the character of many peoples, these stories would be no stories at all if they were to omit all devils and powers of Satan! Christians have no business with this sort of thing!

Historia
In this story, Henty crafts a rousing adventure drawing on real life cowboy stories. "In treating cowboy life," he tells us, "indeed, it may well be said that truth is stranger than fiction". Henty accurately describes the life of the true American frontiersmen - mining, hunting, lumber-jacking, cattle ranching, trapping, fighting hostile Indian tribes, transporting the listener back to the early days of the Wild West with enough mystery thrown in to capture the listener's imagination.

good book but really sad performance!
Revisado: 07-19-21
The book was a good book as is usual for GA Henty, but the audio quality was really bad and the artist was also quite poor. pretty disappointing, though interesting enough content to bear with through to the end.

Historia
This is a story of the days of chivalry in England and of young Myles Falworth, son of a lord unjustly disgraced for treason, who was forced to make his fortune as best he might in the days when men seemed made of iron. How he entered the service of a powerful lord, rose to knighthood, defeated his father's old enemy in thrilling combat, and at last won the friendship of the king is told against a background of the dangerous times of the 14th century that makes them live again.

Historia
Uncle Tom's Cabin was the best-selling novel of the 19th century and the second best-selling book of that century, following the Bible. It is credited with helping fuel the abolitionist cause in the 1850s. In 1855, three years after it was published, it was called "the most popular novel of our day." A thrilling and important piece of American literature!

The best audio in my collection.
Revisado: 03-04-20
I had always wanted to know why a book with such a title was so famous and said to have caused a national movement, but only recently did I finally take action and listen to this book. I have too few words to describe this book, which I now consider to be the best book of my Audible collection, and one of the most powerful, moving, spiritually impacting books that I have ever read (excluding the Bible and specific Christian or theology books). It is hard to properly explain the power of this story, the compelling way that all has been put forward, the moral impact, the plea to humanity, the way the True Gospel of Christ shines forth, and the power of a skilled reader who is fully in tune with the spirit of the book.
I'm only sorry that I left this book undiscovered for so very many years.
Never again will a person have the same view of the American Civil war because their view on slavery will be forever changed.

Historia
Shortly before the US Revolutionary war against England, most inhabitants were her loyal subjects. France had control of much of southern Canada and the “western” lands of the current states of Pennsylvania and Ohio. Skirmishes abounded for years between English settlers pushing west and French settlers and their Indian accomplices. This story includes depictions of the battles of Forts Duquesne and Necessity in Pennsylvania, and Forts Ticonderoga and William Henry in New York, and Quebec in Canada.

Good, but not Henty’s best book!
Revisado: 04-30-19
This book is several hours in even getting past laying the groundwork of the characters, and finally the main character is off to the “colonies” of the New World. From that point most of the book involves a great deal of historical happenings with the character more of a necessary tag-along in order to share the history. Overall, this is a decent book and the history and happenings are the main thrust. The character is a standard Henty character, yet much less skillfully woven into the fabric of the telling.

Historia
On August 24, 1572, more than 2,000 French Huguenots - men, women, and children - were massacred for their faith. In St. Bartholomew's Eve, Henty vividly depicts Admiral Coligny's unflinching bravery, Queen Elizabeth's vacillating foreign policy, Catherine de Medici's vindictive scheming, and the queen of Navarre's inner strength as he recounts the adventures of Phillip Fletcher.

One of the best G. A. Henty audiobooks!!
Revisado: 02-16-19
While the narrator is not quite as good as another who recorded 6 audio CD books, Jim Hodges is a good enough narrator for this fascinating book! Out of the 8-10 G. A. Henty audio books I have listened to, this is among the VERY best. Truly worth every penny! Once I started listening to it I could not stop until the end. Well done, indeed!

Historia
Mr. Henty weaves a story of the life and times of King Richard the Lion-hearted that is yet to be equaled. Cuthbert de Lance, the hero of the story, is of Norman blood on his father's side and Saxon by his mother. By providing timely aid to the Earl of Evesham, Cuthbert is rewarded by being allowed to go to the Crusade as his page. He gains a reputation for valor and prowess due to gallant deeds, and his resourcefulness not only helps King Richard but aids Cuthbert in many a 'hairbreadth escape'.
