Historia
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

I loved this story. The plot twists were masterful, and the narration was great. I think I’ve found a new favorite author!

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

I loved everything about this story: the well-rounded characters, the witty banter, and the amazing voice actors!
This may become one of my favorites that I listen to over and over again.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Is this the whole truth?
Revisado: 02-19-23
Probably not. There are, after all, two sides to every story, and with this family there are probably more sides than two. Regardless, Prince Harry has been through so much, and I’m glad he managed to carve out a life of his own in the States.
The book was very frank, with more than one chapter that made my jaw drop. And I appreciated listening to the prince’s story, sometimes emotional, sometimes sharp, always interesting.

This went so wrong.
Revisado: 02-17-23
The first book in the series was really good, and I was looking forward to indulging in book 2.
For whatever reason, the narrator from the first book was replaced with another narrator. While this second narrator is probably fine for other books- she has a pretty long career doing audiobooks- this was not a fit for her. Her voice sounded too mature for the young main character, AND she kept switching accents for her American characters; sometimes they were all Southern, even though they were from California, and at other times only some of them sounded Southern.
The plot was fairly weak, too, as if the author was trying to make the book longer than it was.
All in all, it was a disappointing experience.

Flat narrator, slow-moving story
Revisado: 10-02-21
As a person who works in theatre, I thought I’d love this book. I was wrong.
Every character was a theatre cliche, and the narrator sounded like someone reading aloud, against their will, in a 10th grade English class.
And as of ch. 12, nothing had really happened yet. Calling it quits.

Historia
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

And that NARRATOR. Jessica Almasy oozes talent from her every word.

Historia
125 Gower Street, 1882. Sidney Grice once had a reputation as London's most perspicacious personal detective. But since his last case led an innocent man to the gallows, business has been light. Listless and depressed, Grice has taken to lying in the bath for hours, emerging in the evenings for a little dry toast and a lot of tea. Usually a voracious reader, he will pick up neither book nor newspaper. He has not even gathered the strength to reinsert his glass eye. His ward, March Middleton, has been left to dine alone.

Don’t read if you like animals.
Revisado: 03-20-21
Warning for anyone who likes animals. Cats in particular.
Kittens— many, many kittens— are tortured and killed in this book.
I was enjoying this series up until this point. It wasn’t the greatest series ever but it was all right. But I stopped reading abruptly more than halfway through the book because... you guessed it... dead kittens.
I’ll be steering clear of this series and this author from now on.
