This story dragged on. The plot is elementary. It was longer than it should’ve been. I lost interest several times. The relationship between the black-and-white people in the story was completely unrealistic for the 1950s.

I thought this book was terrible

I really love Kennedy Ryan, but this book was terrible. It was silly, lazy and preachy. I feel like I went between sex scenes and being preached to. The story just makes no sense. I wish she had spoken to a few people in Washington who actually did political consulting. I’ll never know what happened in book 2. I just don’t care anything about the characters. I fell asleep for an hour and didn’t even care what happened during the hour that I missed.

I cannot get over how good this book is. This book will stick with me for a while. It was brilliant and sad. I am so happy that she ended it the way she did. I am waiting for the sequel. I want to know what happens to them throughout their lives. This book was a good reminder of what life was and what life is for Black people. Brilliant.
